Mr Burns: "What are you looking at me like that for? You believed his cock-and-bull story!"

Got up with my alarm at 7. Didn't really sleep that well.

Left the house about 7:45. It turned out to be way too early. The freeway was very slow, but I still got there about 8:40. And, of course, there was no-one there. So I rang the guy and he said he'd be 15 minutes, so I drove around Mt Lawley looking for a postbox for my letters. Couldn't find one - but I went down lots of interesting little side streets.

Worked 9-4.

Got a message from Mogli in the middle of the day re: new guy. He reckons that we'll like him; I think its hard to make such a call knowing somone for 3 hours, but Mogli seems to have a way with people. So thats WorkA.

Got home and started my ironing almost straight away, while watching Pulp Fiction. Realised that I'd got the Ezekiel verse wrong - it being 25:17, not 29:17. Small point. Also realised that its 'the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men'. I think I usually quote it as 'the iniquties and the tyranny of evil men'. Although, he says it twice, and its different both times; in small ways, perhaps, but nonetheless....

Managed to finish all my ironing by the end of the night. I thought that was pretty OK.

Watched episode 7 of Deadwood. Theres some conspiracies brewing....

The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular

Well, this is post 306. And, to me, that looks like some sort of achievement. I'm really shocked that it has lasted this long. Really! Shocked!

Slept at 13 & o's house. Thus, I could afford to wake up at 9:30 and still wait around for ages before I had to leave. Was planning to eat Ktime for breakfast - but it turned out to be the bars instead of the twists, and it was a bad flavour, so I passed. Was thus very starving.

Waited around long time for LH to finish a worship meeting - and then she had other plans anyway.
So we went off to Southlands, although, since there were five of us, with at least two rather faint from hunger, it took us sometime to make that decision, and then some more time to decide on which car to take. Eventually settled on Ange's large van thing.

My food was not big enough, even though it was fairly big. And I think the guy only gave me 10c change instead of $1.
Some person from Grace Assembly (or some such) came along. Although I can sort of remember the name, I would have absolutely no idea how to spell it, and thus don't want to try. She resolved that our cell (ahem) was full of crazy people. What was I saying about V? It was yesterday, right? And hes the leader, see? Yeah....

Watched some Seinfeld. And ate a picnic and then some Ritz chips while drinking tea. So I resolved that any dinner I would have would be late, since that food was a little filling. Thus, I made my lunch and left for 13 & o's house again at like 6. Very similar time to yesterday, quite accidentally.

Watched some Foxtel - mainly music videos, actually. Then I watched volume 3 of Jackass. Some more crazy people being crazy. I recall V saying before that the movie is a lot better than the series....and I'd have to agree. It seems to be much the same sort of stuff.....variations on, say, 4 themes - being gross, extreme pain, going downhill somehow/skating or being silly in public.

Slept about 11.

"If only I listened to my mother when I was young!" - Arthur Dent, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Ford Prefect: "Why? What did she tell you?"
Arthur Dent: "I don't know! I didn't listen!"

Woke up about 8:30, but I was very tired. But then Mogli replied to some message I sent him at midnight, so that kinda woke me up more. Got out of bed before 9, or so.

Didn't do much till 10:30. Then Pseudo-Unreal came back, which I was expecting, though not at that time.

Went to do shopping, but the traffic was insane, so I came back again.

Was doing account stuff from about 11:30 till about 3, amongst other things. Then I watched an episode of Seinfeld and went and did shopping. It was still rather insane, so I parked in the upstairs at Woolworths. Technically, it was ticket parking, but I went to the two closest machines and they were both out of order. Too bad....

Found a whole stack of the Jarrah white chocolatte, so I rang Mogli cos he reckoned he had all the people he knew looking for it without success. And still not, so I got him a box.

Finally decided to buy some shower gel; and I'd seen ads for some new Lynx one, so I got that. Yeah.....great.

Finished off the final few account things. Then I left to got to 13 & o's house, taking V's Jackass collection, which he had lent to Pseudo-Unreal.

Watched lots of Foxtel, from about 6:30 till 10 or so. Mainly was watching this sequence of shows with stand-up comedians. There were some really funny bits, but I've forgotten them now. Actually, I forgot them almost as soon as they said them. But it was a good laf. Then I watched some Looney Tunes, and Rockwiz, even though thats just on normal SBS.
Then I watched volume 2 of Jackass. Yeah, its funny and that, but it made me a little nautious, and some bits were a little uncomfortable making. Its probably better if I don't describe it.

Hmmm....no photo. Thats like the first day in more than a week.

"You wanna be my latex salesman? I don't think so...." - Jerry Seinfeld

Woke up about 6:30, or so. Didn't have breakfast, or make lunch.

Discovered that Mogli is going out on some audit for some unknown reason, and that hes going to be out of the office for 7 days starting in a week and a bit, or so. So he said I'm just gonna have to make friends with the new guy who starts on Monday.....thats just great.

Didn't feel like I did a whole lotta work. But I think I'm on schedule with the job I'm doing, so thats OK.

Put my washing in and ate some biscuits and watched two episodes of Seinfeld. Then I left until about midnight.

Went to Harvest West and dropped off some payment form. Then I went to church and did accounts stuff from about 4:30 till about 7:30. Then I went and got KFC cos I was starving, and was in the drivethrough just about to order when o rang me and wanted me to order stuff for her and 13. So I did, then went to their house, and 13 got back from work about 5 minutes later.

So they were packing and I was watching Foxtel till 10 or so. Watched a bit of Harvey Birdman, some comedy show that was very similar to Thank God You're Here, SVU, Looney Tunes, World Poker Tour, Christian TV including a Planetshakers video and Mythbusters.

Then I drove 13 & o to the airport. Then I went home, cos my contacts were seriously drying out.

Notice that I now have that Flixster thing on my sidebar. I spent about the first 45 minutes at work today just rating movies. And seeing V's great comments on the ones he rated.....King Kong is 'a modern parable of everyday life'. LH was trying to tell me he was drunk on Wednesday night cos he was trying to get some guy to take his shirt off at a party, and I was like 'I...don't...think...so'. Its just your run of the mill, everyday craziness. Oh, the craziness!

The hat, from yesterday....

"I loathe you!" - Newman, Seinfeld

Got up about 6:40. So I had breakfast and made lunch. Hooray.

Mogli was finally back today, so that was good. I was helping him most of the morning with some more complicated MYOB account stuff - but it ended up being a little too complicated, so he was probably more confused.

Went down to the shop at lunch, and WorkB came too. I bought a choc-chip muffin for $2.70. It was quite a nice muffin. However, I heated it up before I ate the rest of my lunch, so it was a little too lukewarm by the time I ate it. Still good though.

It turned out that on Friday PartnerB had distributed the new Accru+ hats. So I got mine, and Mogli dared me to wear it until I went down to my car after work - this was about 4:30. So I had to help him with some depreciation stuff, and I was wearing my hat, and PartnerG saw it - he was very amused. I took it off as soon as Mogli left at 5, though. Cos it was cramping my hairstyle.

Watched The Simpsons, then another episode of Seinfeld. Then I went to 13 & o's house for dinner.

Watched My Name is Earl at 8. Wasn't that good, as expected.

Had dinner at 8:30, cos it was a home-cooked one and mainly experimental. I thought it was fine, but the host was complaining about how dry everything was, or something.

Watched Lost, then a bit of The Daily Show and Greed. Then they had some Celebrity Poker Showdown, which was really great. I watched until 12:15, but then it was just too late, so I left.

Slept at about 1.

And the final picture, again using the laser sight from V's torch. Supposed to look like a sniper's thingy, or something. Unfortunately, the flash from the camera catches on the screen....kinda ruins it. Still, it was a three man effort and there were quite a few takes. Notice that I'm reading the bible - I think its Revelation, or some such. Notice also that my hair looked so better back then, in the midst of some semi-dyed phase. Makes me want to do it again....

Mr Burns: "Smithers, every year you out strip yourself in succulence!"

Got up about 6:50. Had breakfast, and thus was quite later than normal. Didn't get to make lunch - but, due to my lack of bread, it could only be one out of today, tommorrow and Friday.

Got a message from Mogli in the morning saying he was taking my advice by wearing what he wants and going straight to his seminar....lucky for some.

Had the chicken schnitzel burger for lunch. Tried to eat it as slowly as possible - it kinda worked out pretty well, cos I was reading the Red Dog book at the time. More than half way through, now - its not really very long.

Ended up leaving work at like 5:40, cos I was trying to finish this job. Then I realised that I still needed to do more on a related entity, so the point was null, really.

Was surprised at how empty the West Perth bit of Thomas street was - and it was only about 15 minutes later than the usual.

Was absolutely starving, but its nearing the end of the week and I'm running out of food. Had to eat my steak with rice, cos the pasta is gone.
Ate some speculas with tea at 6 to hold me over for a while. Once again, as soon as I start thinking about the 40 hour famine (not for like another month), I have these constant hunger episodes that make me feel faint, etc.

Watched another two episodes of Seinfeld. Thus, there is only one more disc till the end of season 4, which is where I will stop, cos I started with season 5. I realised yesterday that I still haven't watched all of Lano and Woodley - I ended up only watching 2 episodes or so, as I recall. And theres still Pulp Fiction, of course. Heh.

Am preparing to order Revolutions from Amazon, and also Glengarry Glen Ross, though I'm not sure about the latter. Its a very good show, but I don't know if its the sort of thing I'd want to keep watching. I really need to go back to a video store and rent some stuff one of these days.

A picture with CJC from last year's camp. The point here is that V was showing off his torch thing, which is the key element in these three photos. Yesterday, it was just him shining the light up at his face. The other two involve the laser sight function, used in motion here and stationery with the other. Incidentally, it comes out with the Jesus Fish pattern.....

Homer: "If only I listened to my kids instead of my big dumb wife. Oh, I guess I shouldn't call her that."

Got up about 6:40. Made lunch and that, but it was so that I got to work later than I wanted to.

Got a cappuccino from the coffee guy, cos I was walking down to the city to go to a clients office.

Got a call from Mogli when I was about 3/4 of the way there. It meant that I had to hold my coffee at an awkward angle, but I had already spilled some of it on myself, so that was OK.

Had morning tea, cos it was the Inspector's birthday. It was a little awkward - I think some people were giving me strange looks, cos they had no idea who I was.

Left at 3, waited 20 minutes for a bus, then got back at 3:30 and had a rather short lunch.

Theres some new office temp now, cos WorkC left last Friday cos her Uni now clashes - all her afternoons are taken up. Apparently she's been in before during the summer holidays, and Mogli says she doesn't really talk at all.

He came back about 4:15 - I have no idea why. I tell him he should just get there at 9 and leave at 4 and spend the rest of the time at home, or whatever. And not wear the business attire either....I sometimes doubt he's as rebellious as he tries to make out.

Left at 5, due to my short lunch break.

Watched the rest of Reloaded - still love that Architecht's speech. Still don't really understand a lot of the film; ie, the second to last scene with the falling machines; that maketh no sense.
Am still seriously contemplating getting Revolutions.

Since I'm in a reminiscing photo type mood, I thought I'd also include this one which I also came across yesterday - worked out particularly well, I think. Thats V from last years camp....Since we tried to take a weird-like photo involving each of us individually (me, V and Chong's John's Chong), I may put those ones up later.

Homer: "My family stood by me. On the way home I realised how little that helped."

Had to use my mobile to set an alarm for 7, cos it would be too much trouble to change my standard alarm, cos its only got 2 settings, and I use one for normal workdays (6) and the other for Sunday (9).

So I got up about 7:20, or so. Was ready in plenty of time. I prayed for 10 minutes, but it was still only 8:20, but I left anyway. So I got there about 8:45, which was almost perfect timing had I left at 8:30, as was the original plan.

Worked 9-4. Was very faint by 1:15, so had my lunch then - about half an hour. Got time to read some of my Red Dog book. I think my impression of this Louis guy was a bit too high - I just always figured Captain Correlli's Mandolin was some great work of literature - now I have my doubts.

Lovely weather all day - finally. Although, it appears to be wet every day for the next two weeks (in part); so washing may be a problem. Its a pity it can't just, like, pour one day then break for a few days; but I guess weather doesn't take peoples schedules into account.

Watched The Matrix special features, then started watching Reloaded. Skipped the Zion parts for the whole temple speech and dance and the love scene; I mean, ewww. That also included the Link bit, cos he sux.
Stopped it at the Neo vs ex-agent Smith fight scene. No particular reason.

I decided that the X-Files picture of the supposed UFO sighting on my desktop was getting just a bit too....y'know...so I went to change it. And I discovered all these photos, like the crazy ones me and V took at camp from 2 years ago, or whenever - when Jeff was here; the one at Camp Simon. Cos the last picture was named 'Zombie' - I think I was half asleep or something when V took it. He thought it was hilarious, anyway.
And then I found one I took at the next (and last) CZ camp from last year up in the hills at Camp Logue Brook. I took a panorama of about 4 which fit together really well - I actually can't really pick the join, though there does seem to be some slight discrepancies in the hills at the back. And then I inserted a verse which struck me during one of the sessions. It looks really nice, I think. I'm trying to use it as a background, but it has to be stretched to fit and, thus, doesn't look as good.

Old people: "We're trying to get some sleep here; its almost 6:15...."

Set my alarm for 9, as per usual, but woke up at 7:30.
Still didn't have any breakfast, though I did watch two more episodes of Seinfeld. Was gonna watch Video Hits, but it seemed to suck, so....

Yeah, was in a foul mood re: Friday afternoon. So I spent most of the worship arguing with God about His ways being wrong, etc. Didn't come to any sort of meaningful resolution - though I know He's not going to relent, so it looks like I'm just gonna have to live with it for the time being.

Had an EGM after the service, which probably started about 20 minutes late. I wouldn't really know, cos I was late getting there; paying people money and witnessing signatures, etc.
Anyway, V and NS waited around for me, so that was OK.

Ended up going to Yuki for lunch - V blamed that on me, but I was only drawing logical conclusions from what he was suggesting; we tried Taurus first but, dur, it was full.
Well, Yuki had changed a lot - but the food still kinda sucked. Though I had chicken katsu curry which was pretty nice. V had the usual - of sorts. It was still bad, apparently. We had a long and rather furious conversation that I'm sure NS found rather confusing - but then me and NS confused V by talking about The Canberrian.
Ps Y came over in the middle, cos there was a car parked inside the church compound - but we couldn't get in contact with the guy what V thought it was, so he just had to lock the thing and go.
When we came in, it was like really crowded (sort of), but then by the time I'd finished it was completely empty.....kinda weird.
Took the traditional photo - it ended up being too shadowy. Don't know who to blame for that.....heh!

Did my ironing from when I got back till about 6 while watching The Matrix - its been a while, you see. I was concerned my memorising of phrases was falling off a bit; which reminds me that I'll have to watch Pulp Fiction again soon. Anyway, it was still of a high standard.

Went to 13 & o's house for dinner - actually we ended up going out with Nam to Foo Wah. Then we watched Tristan & Isolde; which was a fairly unbearable film - cos you just spent the whole film wondering when they were gonna get caught and wondering when the bad stuff would happen, etc. But, ultimately, still dull.

Saturday, July 22, 2006

Mr Burns: "Ironic, isn't it, Smithers - this bunch of troglodites has cost me the election.

Yet, if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to gaol! Thats democracy for you!"

Woke up about 8:30. Had my shower, then went shopping. Got some more members of the nuclear family.

Was then doing accounts from like 10 till 4, bar when I had lunch and watched the rest of Goodfellas.

Drank lots of tea during the day, cos it was so damn freezing - I actually had to put on a jumper later at night, and had the heater on my legs during the day.

Then I watched some Seinfeld, then I did some more accounts stuff.

Watched some more Seinfeld during dinner. Then I watched Rising Sun - but its really not a very good film.

Friday, July 21, 2006

"Well I've never licked a sparkplug and I've never sniffed a stinkbug and I've never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball...." - Larry (cucumber)

"And I've never bathed in yoghurt and I don't look good in leggings and I've never been to Boston in the fall

Cos we're the pirates who don't do anything
We just stay at home and lie around
And if you ask us to do anything
We'll just tell you....
We don't do anything"

I was looking at some movie site today, and it had these clips from film, and one (I think it was Pirates of the Carribean) had the tagline 'the pirates who don't do anything'. Which reminded me of that song.

Got out of bed about 6:40, mainly cos I needed to go to the bathroom. Didn't have time for cereal.

Spent a fair portion of my morning helping Mogli with MYOB journals - he spent a long time complaining that all his work was too hard and he hated it, so I finally had to offer to assist myself - just so he would stop whingeing. But, then again, thats the majority of our conversations, so its better to have some whingeing. Hes still got the car, at least.....heh.

Had lunch and watched a bit of Seinfeld. Then I went to church to pick up accounts stuff.

Got back around 3:30, and tried to do some stuff, but couldn't really manage it.

Didn't have dinner, due to sporadic eating during the afternoon.

Watched Goodfellas - well, till 10. Then I was tired and depressed so I went to bed.

Yes....got some inappropriately timed (is there any other sort) bad news. I'd say what it is, but it really is a bit too close to the surface, and I don't want to vent here lest I say something I regret.
But let me just say that I was thinking about this issue this week - and some would say that for it to come to the fore like this suggests that its a sign and thus its for the best. Well, God has never been wrong before, and He never will be wrong again but, if this is a sign
HE IS WRONG!

Good night.

Thursday, July 20, 2006

Carl: "You are one of Springfield's very special creatures."

Got up at 6:50. Ate cereal, but no time for nothing else.

Got a coffee in the morning. I guess I had forgotten how bitter it is......

Mogli brought me a chicken leg for lunch - but it turned out to be that sambal chicken that what tastes like shrimp. It was OK.....not very big, though.

Went and got a hot beef roll for the rest of lunch. Didn't get a Giant Sandwhich cos it was WorkC's birthday and she was bringing cake - exactly a year younger than V - but it turned out I didn't eat any cake anyway, cos it was like a fruit flan, or some such. Mogli went on and on about it.....

Watched the rain roll in in the afternoon. Going to the bathroom was a freaky experience, cos it was dark and the rain came in the window and the wind made scary noises. And the light keeps flicking, so its like lightening, or some such.

Watched one episode of Seinfeld from the second disc of season 4, and also the extra bits (bloopers and standup). Then I watched My Name is Earl, which was better than last week, I guess, but still nothing special. I'm sticking with it, but I really don't care. Then I watched something....New for Old Christine, or something. It stars Julia Louise-Dreyfuss, but it was just your standard comedy and really not great. So I'm not bothering with that again.

Just realised that Deadwood will ship the same time as Sin City, and one is released mid-August while the other is released mid-September - so I won't get Deadwood for some time. Thus, I have decided to continue downloading the episodes in the meantime. Yay!
Ahem....

Wednesday, July 19, 2006

Flanders: "I have to say, Reverend, I kinda feel like Job"

Reverend Lovejoy: "Aren't you being just a tad melodromatic, Ned? After all, I believe Job WAS right-handed."

Maybe a better quote for yesterday....but I was thinking about that last night (the book, not the quote). Mogli was a lot calmer today, though. For the most part.

Ordered the first two seasons of Deadwood, as well as the collector's tin of Sin City. I found out later, which was nice, that both are cheaper even in $AU than the $US on Amazon.....so taking out conversion and shipping, thats a nice saving there. And, they're better versions. Hooray! It was still like $120.....

Forgot to pay the rent until the end of the day, so it won't go through till tomorrow. Pah.

Got quite a bit of work done - well, it felt like that, anyway. Still, the day went super slow. It was probably partly due to that Mogli didn't get in till after 9 due to his car, and was with one of the partner's for an hour in the morning, and left about 3:30 for more car stuff.
We were having this real worry about what's gonna happen when the new guy comes in two weeks....cos we're gonna feel obligated to let him into our circle of nonsense....especially when we're so used to it just being mainly us.

Got my tax refund at the end of the day....I noticed it when I was paying rent. So now, I'm finally back in the black in regards my net cash position, including the money I owe my parents for my car. I think car insurance and then College fees will be due soon, so it may not stay that way....but, for all intents and purposes, "I am now completely out of debt".
Of course, not about to start the dream job in paradise just yet. But I'm not really complaining about my job at present, anyway.

Watched some more Seinfeld while doing ironing. I ironed my pants and 1.5 shirts - so its half a shirt still to be done for Friday.

Am now watching episode 5 of Deadwood, which is the last one I have. So I'll just have to wait after this one....and I already deleted the earlier ones, so......

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

Marge: "Aren't you going to work today?"

Homer: "No. They said if I was late one more time I'd be fired. I can't take that chance."

Woke up suddenly at 5:30 after some nightmarish dream. Actually got out of bed at 6:40 - it was cold.

Had my cereal and made lunch, but it was late. Didn't get to work till about 7:50.

Mogli drove his 6 week old car for the second time only - and someone ran into the back of him on the freeway. The damage isn't that bad; its the left bumper only, but, of course, it needs to be fixed, and it still won't be cheap - not that he has to pay, of course. Turns out that the perpetrator (who was very nice, apparently) works for the Metropolitan Cemetries Board (its rather freaky, actually).
But, of course, he was in a big stinky all day. I had to keep physically steering him away from going down to look at the damage, cos it just sets him off again. I don't think he (or either of us) did much work, cos he was calling all these people and that to try and get his repairs done. We both resolved that our insurance companies (Western QBE and Vero) suck and that we should go with like SGIO or RAC instead, cos they have a 'one phone call and its done' policy, and not this 'chasing quotes' nonsense.
Anyway, I think he was calmed down enough by the end of the day, but he still left early.

The only other big note of the day was WorkC, who gave me and Mogli free samples of this Milo Breakfast Drink Powder stuff - which was bad; I heartily don't recommend it. Really thick and not really very sweet. Also, I think it did something with my brain; I was slurring my speech a bit afterwards, and my sense of gravity wasn't all it should be.

Then it was time for the monthly training - and only me and Mogli was around, and it was Mogli's first time. We took his car down - despite it having a bad bumper, its still a lovely car; I can understand why hes so riled about it. Parked in a half hour parking zone for what would be an hour, but I told him thats where everyone always parks and they never seem to get tickets. I mentally resolved to pay half of it if he got one.....luckily I didn't have to go through with that, though.
He left half way through at 5 - mainly cos he was still a little ratty about the car.
Lucky for him he did - cos the second half was really, really, really boring. All about this self-assessment stuff; I knew it would be bad, and it was worse.

Watched some more Seinfeld at night. Should've done some ironing, cos I'll need it for Thursday and Friday, but I didn't. Watched another episode of Deadwood instead - and decided to order the first two seasons, cos they're selling them together in this special deal thingy.

"At times of mediocrity...."

Woke up just before 10. Had a shower and toast, then it was about 10:30. Did my packing - took very short, of course.

Had to go and buy milk and post a letter. So I didn't actually leave until about 11:30. Had to get petrol from Yallingup - it was like 146 cents, or something. Got $35 worth, which was almost a full tank.

Got back about 2:30. Had to try and confirm some presents situations, cos there's so many cell people having birthdays this week. Decided to just go Koorong and look.

Went to do my shopping at Coles. Didn't have to buy much - but managed to get two Simpsons figurines, including Mr Burns, which is great. Not really happy with the Lisa (ClobberGirl), but I don't have a Lisa, so its better than nothing. Mr Burns is from the Power Plant collection, but I didn't see a Lenny, Karl or Smithers.
Also, I was meaning to withdraw cash on the way but I forgot. So I paid with my AMEX....and it worked really well, so its something I should do more often.

Went to Koorong. Bought lots of presents without toooo much trouble.....I got a nice flash of inspiration at the end, and it was the right price, so that was OK. Better than I expected, I guess. Unfortunately, they didn't accept AMEX. However, I was able to withdraw lots of cash, so that was nice.

Was absolutely starving by the time I got back - about 4:30, so I cheated dinner by eating bits of my chicken, and some shapes. Unfortunately, I often can't hold out when I don't have a meal, so I end up ruining my meal schedule. It thus meant that I didn't feel like a full dinner when it got to that stage, so eventually ate a small dinner at 8, which turned out to be too small, but not small enough to warrant eating anything else. Aahhh.....Now breakfast tomorrow shall have to correct everything, but it probably won't cos its those unfilling cornflake things.....

Watched the first episode of season 4 of Seinfeld, plus two extras, including the Regis and Kathy Lee impersonation, which was one of the main reasons I went back and started watching all the episodes again. Aaahhhh....so funny. Notice how I just used 'aaaahhhh' twice in two paragraphs, but expressing two rather different feelings. One of quiet resigning, the other of quiet contentment. Anyway.....quite undeliberate, I assure you.

I decided to watch 'What's Good For You', cos they had this bit on guys wearing tight pants, and I figured they'd answer in the positive, but unconvincingly, which they did. Oh sure, tight pants are fine, but warm baths are bad? I don't buy it. Anyway, shorts are just way more comfortable, so who'd be so stoopid?
But, regardless.....the test subjects decided to all buy girls jeans, cos that's the fashion now.....and, I was just thinking, if I didn't know Mogli, that would've seemed really strange to me.....

"When life's a total wreck....."

Woke up past 10. Had the usual toast and that.

Tried to watch more football, but the sattellite thing was playing up. Eventually started working just when I decided to watch something.
Watched a bit, but Fremantle was winning, so I watched Dirty Deeds instead. A typical (bad) Australian film, with stupid twists at the end.

Finished my Tolkein book (The Tolkein Reader). Started a book on Red Dog by the guy who wrote Captain Correlli's Mandolin. Seems strange that he would've been so interested in Dampier....even that he would've gone there. Anyway....

Finished watching all the Goodies.

Saturday, July 15, 2006

"I think of those worse off than me....."

Woke up past 10. Had a bit of toast or whatever.

Looked at chickens for a bit. Did a tour of the property. Nothing much changed, except that mum has had nearly all the Eucalyptus Grandis (Flooded Gum - Eastern States variety) cut down.

Fixed up some computer stuff, including the Atari, the display, and the Skype. Had to test the Skype by calling my brother in Queensland. He sounded his usual animated self.....no-one will understand, so I won't 'go into more details', whatever that word is.

Watched some more Goodies. And some football.

Not much else. Went to bed about 11.

"And really feel like heck." - BC

This should've been another one of those '4 days in 1 day' type postings, but I figured I'd spread it out instead. So they're gonna be pretty short.

Woke up at about 5:15. And I figured that was close enough to 5:30, so I left. Got back to the house a little after 6, and took in the rest of my washing.

Had lots of time. Prayed actually for about 20 minutes, but most of that was my usual day-dreaming stuff. Same thing, I guess, but not really.....'praying is just talking to God' etc.....yeah, right.

Had a bowl of cornflakes. It didn't really do nothing.

Got to work pretty early. Was planning to read some more book, but I was just doing internet stuff, and Mogli got in really early - like before 8. So there went that plan.

Most of my morning then was helping him, cos he was using MYOB for like the first time. However, I did manage to get quite a bit of stuff done on my side.

He was lamenting that he'd be alone, cos the staff member who was supposed to be going at the end of July left last night due to personal circumstances, and so for Friday afternoon it would just be him and the bookkeeper out the back, then on Monday its the bookkeepers day off, and also the manager and the partner that he reports to won't be there.
I felt for him, but what can you do? He kept asking me to stay around and eat lunch, but I had to make the drive down south, so it was impossible.....and then I overheard him making plans with his girlfriend, anyway. So, I donno what he was going on about.

I packed pretty quick, and just ate the rest of my chicken for lunch, then left at about 1:30. Another boringly long drive.....Mandurah keeps getting slower; they're always putting in different types of intersections and lowering speed limits. I thus got there about 4:30.

Saw the chickens. They were looking very white.

Watched some Goodies cos my parents had borrowed it from my aunt, or something. I thought the other DVD that I saw before was a lot better, but they were still good.

Went out for dinner to Enjoia....a weird little place. Had garlic bread, which was nice and salty, then a Malaysian satay pizza, which was very unMalaysian (it was incredibly subtle), but nice. But I didn't think much of desert....it was a brownie giant sandwich, and having become quite a connoisseur of giant sandwiches lately, I was most disappointed. Then I had a latte, which was way too strong.

Watched a bit of football. Then watched some Tour de France. Then bed at about 11.

Squeeze every penny guy: "You fat cats didn't finish your plankton! Now its mine."

Got out of bed just before 6:50. Thus, no time to make lunch, although I did have breakfast. Still rather full from yesterday's lunch.

Got a latte from the coffee guy (who may or may not be Greg), cos the morning was freezing and he was outside the building, for the first time in a very long time.

Day went pretty slowly - Mogli was away for long periods of time cos he was with one of the partners sorting out computer problems, etc. Mainly with the ATO.

Went to the local shop to buy lunch; Mogli kept going on about it, so I got the chicken schnitzel roll instead of the hot beef roll. But then, according to him, I ate it too fast....he went on and on about that for a while.

Towards the end of the day, Mogli threw me a pen as I was walking back from looking at the new stationery covers, and I made an over enthusiastic dive for it, which meant I partly fell over. And, then, it turned out my shoe left a long black streak on the carpet. So I took a photo of it.
Needless to say, Mogli was very amused. Me; less so.

Mogli was then speculating that the coffee guy's name is probably actually Tom, cos theres this guy who every day writes 'Tom' in the lift in permanent marker, which is everyday cleaned off by the cleaner's. I think he was only joking, though.....at least, I hope he was.

Took most of my washing in, but there were two things that weren't quite dry. Then I left at just before 6 to go to my Grandmother's place.
Had red rooster for dinner.
Watched channel 7, cos that channel was on. Thus, I saw pretty much all of Home and Away and How I Met Your Mother - two bad shows. Though, the former was so, so, so much more worser than the latter.

Then My Name is Earl was on. It was still good - though this time he didn't do anything on the list - although he tried to do two things, he failed both times. Though there was a mention at the end about paying for a window that he broke 15 years ago....so that might've been something.

Then I switched to ABC hoping The West Wing was on, and it was. Watched one episode - it was pretty good. Though I didn't really understand the problem in the first place, and didn't really understand the result in the end, and didn't really understand the process in the middle. But, seriously, it was still good.

Presenter: "The Happy Smile Super Challenge Family Wish Show!"

Got up about 6:30, again. Didn't make lunch, cos the plan was to go out.

Pretty uneventful morning. The usual stuff, y'know. Still talking to Mogli a lot.

Went for lunch at Coast Cafe on Hay street, as an I don't really know what, although it was organised by WorkC and was partly cos WorkP is going away on holiday for two weeks as of tommorrow, and WorkC won't see her because she would have left by the time she comes back. Maybe.
Me and Mogli had exactly the same thing - as if you couldn't guess. It was a toasted chicken club sandwich (mmm.....open faced club sand wedge), which was very big, especially with the fries as well, but it was $14. Also, there was some weird stuff in there - like the egg was boiled not fried. And there was lots of lettuce but not much avocado. Anyway, it wasn't anything special. But it was big.

Again, not much happening in the afternoon.

Saw a behind the scenes clip of M Night Shamayan's (??) new film, Lady in the Water.....but I couldn't really tell much of what was going on. Except that it had that Sideways guy in it, and it was another spooky one, and it was like some real life fairy story, or something.

After The Simpsons, continued watching more of Deadwood - starting on episode 2. It really is a very good show.....I'm even beginning to warm to the villian. Not as in starting to like him, but starting to appreciate his role and not just wanting someone to shoot him and get it over with, which was a very strong feeling for the first episode and a half, I guess.
Feel bad for the posh guy though - cos I saw reviews and I know that hes gonna die pretty soon.

Went to some prayer meeting. Did some praying and that.

Lodged my tax return - getting a revised group certificate which curtailed my refund somewhat, although its still almost $3k, and I can't complain about that. Really.
Although I did to Mogli.

Marge: "Are you flushing those springs down the toilet?"

Homer: "No.
[flushes toilet]
Nine hundred and ninety six springs to flush down, nine hundred and ninety six springs....."

Got out of bed just after 6:30. Was very hard, cos it was very cold. Similar situation tommorrow, I guess.

Talked to Mogli a lot more than usual.....or, so I think. It probably wasn't, really.
The discussion was mainly about the apparent impending exodus from our firm.....6 people in 6 months, etc, and looking like the possbility of more.

Got a hot chocolate from the coffee guy, much to Mogli's wails re: something about I was almost off and now am back on, etc.

Ran out of work in early afternoon. Then I got something, but it wasn't much. And then Mogli moved down the back to tidy up a desk for some new guy starting at the end of this month, so that made things go even slower.

Went to Garbo to watch The Break Up with V, LH, NS and Ange. It was a strange film....not really very funny, and not really very real, and not really very interesting, either. It was about people breaking up......so how good could it be, really?

Then we went to Gelare. I think V wanted to go there just so he could see it being full of Asian people......which is weird, cos its just the sort of thing Mogli would say. We shared a waffle, which was really nice, cept we had to sit outside in the freezing cold....cos inside it was full of Asian people.

Got home at 10. I was shocked, really. It felt later than that.

Homer: "Can't talk - eating."

That was supposed to be 'can't talk - sleeping', but I'm not sure Homer actually said that. It would be a bit, y'know, practically impossible, though thats probably not stopped him before.

And thats cos I woke up just before 3. Had a shower, then a 'sweet cappuccino', then I left to do my exam. I felt very bad for V, cos I think I kept him from his plans: firstly, cos he probably only watched the final cos of me anyway, which caused him to sleep till 12, and then, cos he said he was planning to go to Uni, and I think he had to wait around till I left before he could leave - so that was pretty much the entire day.

Anyway, my sleep ruined my plans, too. Cos I was planning to go to Koorong and I didn't have time. And then my dad rang planning to meet for coffee, and I couldn't do that either. Plus I was planning to drop stuff off at church when I did my exam, but because I was....um...a bit late, I just did it at Ps Ask's house.

It was two hours, so I finished about 5:50. Then I went through some stuff with the administrator, who was a bit unwell. So I left at about 6:45.

Went to KFC at High Road, for something different. Had the Chicken Parmy burger meal, which was really nice - I love that neapolitan sauce, or whatever it is. Very impressive service too; the guy got everything I wanted on first try, and wasn't rude about it, even though I wasn't saying things too correctly, and then it was ready before I even got to the second window, even though I was the only car in line....

Watched the end of Traffic. Such an incredible film......and soooooo much better than Syriana.

French President: "No. Let us just act snooty towards Americans from now on."

Saw the results of Germany vs Portugal; Germany winning 3:1. When Portugal scored its consolation goal in the 88th minute, there was virtually no cheering.

Its kinda weird not having to count money anymore......I have, like, time after the service.

Went for lunch at MacDonalds. I had nuggets. They weren't as good as I remember....probably cos they didn't offer me any sauce.

Did some accounts stuff. Started watching Traffic. Was feeling kinda tired....I think I played a bit of CivII.

Watched The Simpsons, then wrote out checks, then I watched Planet Earth while eating dinner. I didn't think it was really anything more special than those I'd seen before - I really miss it in the later shows with David Attenborough that he is too old to actually go out in the field, so you never see him now he just does background narration. The one thing that was incredible I thought was a Great White shark catching seals - there was this one shot where it leapt completely out of the water and then some - like a whale breaching only a lot more so. It made Jaws look like some harmless minow.....scary stuff.

I left to go to V's house then.

Had to get petrol, cos my car's fuel guage was on its last flashing rectangle. And when I got there it was very crowded - probably cos the petrol was like 128 cents, or so. Anyway, it was pouring rain, and the only one I saw available was on the extreme end when the rain was coming from, and the roof only extends out over the car, so if I filled up there I would've been soaked. So I tried, and the only other available spot was up the other extreme end - so it was actually quite dry there. But, of course, then the wind changed direction and came from the front instead, so my legs got pretty covered in freezing cold water. And then I was only wearing slides, and not particuarly good ones, so I had to walk very slowly through the exposed area to the building to pay the bill, and it was still raining, and there was this huge depression puddle in the middle.....lovely weather, anyway.

V's parents were having like another function thingy with church people, though not too many. There was this weird sign on the door....
There were some people watching Pirates of the Carribean (numero uno), but I decided I should study for my exam. Then, after a while, V said I should use the TV room, cos it was more quite - but then he played his ipod anyway, cos he'd just got a new Pink Floyd CD. So we both sat in there - he was reading some economics book, or something. Then the Pink Floyd CD was up, so he played some playlist. Then he changed and read some magazine; The Economist, probably. And so that continued until about 1, when I decided that I'd studied enough. And V was getting pretty tired, so we both just lay around talking about stuff with Radiohead etc playing for an hour.....it really reminded me of what people do when they take drugs - though maybe thats from watching Traffic. A pity times like that have to end....but then theres inevitably stuff to do, and that.
So we finally remembered about the soccer (like, why we were there in the first place) and turned it on just as the anthems were starting. Or maybe finishing.

I thought the game was fairly good - very fast paced, especially the first 35 minutes or so of the first half. I'm really glad that Italy scored that goal, because a game decided on a badly awarded penalty is really bad - that is, if you don't really care who wins. And although the first French penalty shouldn't have been, there was another in the second half that probably should've been, so that was fair, I guess.
But then, of course, it went to extra time, and Zidane got a red card for headbutting, and there were no more goals.
So there was a penalty shootout, and Italy scored 5 from 5 which was enough for them to win. Saw the presentation - I think V's favourite part of the match was watching the Italians act like happy little children.

And then to bed. At 5.

Lunchlady Doris (posing as a nurse): "Theres a choice of two - manic depressant mouse or the bluebird of unhappiness"

I needed a quote to do with 'blue', and this is the best I could think of at short notice - bar that terrible song circa late 90s about those aliens, or whatever.

So yesterday, I was wearing socks, and with shorts not jeans so they could be see clearly - and before I washed them on Wednesday they were white, whilst now they are quite clearly lightish blue. So, great, thinks I, the colours must've run, as I knew they would with heated water - it just took a month or so to do so.
And then today I decided to wear my lovely Billabong shirt....which used to be this great off-white light creamy/vanilla type colour - and now its been dyed perfectly light blue. Would've been a great job, had it been deliberate. Its strange that my pillowcase, which was in the same load, and is also white, doesn't really seem to be any near as strongly affected. And then theres my shorts which were kinda a dark cream/light grey.....looking a much greyer grey at present. Though I haven't worn them yet, so its hard to tell, exactly. Cos I think the light in this room is slightly deceiving.

Today was all about shopping. Got out of bed before 9:30, and left at about 9:45. Went to Coles - mainly cos I wanted to buy Simpsons figurines. Then, it turned out that this weeks set is all super-heroes....and I kinda passed. Although, I probably should've got Lisa, cos I don't have a Lisa yet. Anyway, I also got to buy my budget scotch steak, so it wasn't a total waste. Plus, I got my Speculas....don't know how I missed them before. And, I also got some new hair stuff, recommended by Mogli. Although, there were three types; wax, putty and paste. So I picked the paste, cos I know its not the wax, and I've had bad experiences with putty. But, I was thinking later, I think its paste as in like 'clag paste' sorta thing.....like quite gluey......

So I took all my shopping back home, then put the stuff away, then left straight away to go to Word. Was looking first for a part birthday present for V, and they didn't have it.....I wasn't really expecting them to. But they did have the new Hillsong CD, which is nice and cheap. So I got that. There are 3 songs from the United Live albumn (United we Stand), being Take it All, None but Jesus, and, my favourite, From the Inside Out. The two songs after the latter, Found and More to See are two of the lowlights, as well as the second song, The Freedom We Know. Found is too atmospheric type, and the guy singing has a weird voice. More to See is too much of a performance, not like proper worship. And The Freedom We Know doesn't fit the small church environment.....But I am a big fan of song 3; For Who You Are, and also the 3 songs after More to See; Adonai, I Believe and Oceans will Part. Thats all I can say right now.

Went straight from Word down the causeway, then across to Garden City down Canning Highway. On the way over I passed a Chinese Restaurant, which had a very amusing name, I thought. Wing Wah, or something.....
I guess due mainly to the Myer Sale, the carpark was over full. Eventually had to go and park next to the Hoyts, where there was lots of space. Had a listen to The Eraser, but it sounded almost exactly like Radiohead circa Kid A/Amnesiac era, so I bought it without much hesitation. It does seem a lot more, or, I should say, a lot less variety. Nothing wrong with it....just a bit dull. But I only had one listen, and it wasn't a very thorough one.
After I had my usual VVL. It really only occurred to me as I was walking into Garbo....makes me so happy.

Then I went to visit V.....well, actually, just to buy more curry sauce. Cos, as I suspected, V was busy. Or acting busy....its hard to tell sometimes. His dad tried to invite me over for dinner again.

So then I finally went home, managing to buy everything I wanted, which was nice.
Watched the Hillsong DVD, which had some rather long sermon thingy by Darlene Zschech on worship. It was pretty good....though rather static, cos its just her talking to the camera.
Did some accounts stuff.
Then I did my ironing while watching Vanilla Sky. I think my white shirt has a tinge of something else....but I donno. I washed two ties, and they came out sparkling....though one has began to become unthreaded type. Which means I may have to spend more money......

Started watching 'One Hour Photo', but Robin Williams character just makes me way too uncomfortable, cos hes so.....obtrusive yet lame, type. Yeah.....

Spud: "Use whatever it takes to bring in the rubes.....name-calling, flattery, slang from the 30s that nobody uses anymore..."

Bart: "Like rubes?"
Spud: "Now you're on the trolley!"

Didn't leap out of bed, even though its Friday. Still had time for cereal, though.

Me and Mogli spent a large part of the morning searching for charity days where you can wear free dress, so we can....wear free dress while having a reason for it. However, the only ones we found were Loud Shirt Day for the deaf, which has already passed, Jeans for Genes day, which is early August and Daffodil Day, wearing yellow, which is the end of August. Then there is Pink Ribbon Day, where Mogli was saying we could wear pink, but I don't neccessarily agree, which is in November. I thought there were a lot more than that.....

Had morning tea suddenly - I wasn't expecting it. Had Hummingbird cake, which I have never heard of - was exactly like banana cake, though I wonder if it was bananas, since they are so expensive nowadays.

Kinda forgot to have lunch - didn't really have the time, I guess. Was doing accounts stuff from about 1:30 till 3, and I kept meaning to have lunch, but I didn't.

Had some church finance meeting at 3:30, although it started more like at 4. At some curry puffs - so that sorta helped. But they were all vegetarian....
Meeting lasted till about 6:30, maybe a bit later. Then we had some other stuff to sort out, so I didn't leave till about 7:30 or so.

Watched Red Dragon, cos I was too worn out, etc, to study or anything. I still found it very creepy - more scary than Silence of the Lambs, I think, though not as good cos the 'phsycological thriller' element is nowhere near as powerful.

Thursday, July 06, 2006

Marge: "Don't you need any pens? All you're buying is rubber bands and paper clips."

Bart: "Nah. These days everything is done on computers.....and staplers. Computers and staplers."

Another relevant quote....Mogli, due to him not having any work to do, was playing "a new game" (as he said) - flicking rubber bands on the wall onto the ceiling. Then doing some multiple ones. I donno, but for some reason it looked real funny from where I sat.

Woke up at 3:20 or so to watch football. Another very dull game - France scored in about the 35th minute from a penalty, and that was the only goal. I was hoping Portugal would get a red card or something, so I could know that it was all over and go to bed. As it is, I had to stay watching till the end....went back to bed at 5 for like one hour.

Had cornflakes for breakfast. The world's most unfulfilling cereal.

Was at the same client's office today as yesterday. Got back at just past 1, so I was able to keep Mogli from eating another lunch by himself.

Watched My Name is Earl. Its still good, but not as good as the pilot. And he got through 2 steps really, really easy.

Downloaded some 10 minute clip, which was supposedly an exerpt from Triumph of the Will. I have to say, if the rest of the film is like that, I give it 2 stars tops. I never knew that Nazi Germany could be so.....insanely dull. Probably not helped by bad subtitle translation, but Hitler's speech to these huges hordes of youth was such an uninspired load of garbage....the sort of thing I'd expect from John Howard, only with less education. And how any of the youth there found it the slightest bit entertaining is beyond me.
At least he said that Germany had to be peace-loving....that was kinda funny. But that really was the only highlight.

Well, I was planning to stay up late(ish) tonight, cos I had to go to bed at 9:15 the past two nights for soccer. But then, it got to 9:30, and I was really, really tired. So went to sleep then.

Vehicle repair guy: "Oh no! These tyres won't TAKE a balance!"

Woke up just before 5 to watch the supposed replay of the semi-final. However, as it had slightly occurred to me last night, supposing the game went into extra time - thats already 2 hours, and plus that from 3 its already past 5.
So, needless to say, when I turned it on it was the original game and extra time had just started. But lucky I didn't watch the game, cos there were hardly any shots on goal, just like the England vs Portugal one. And the extra time itself was pretty boring, with that useless Podolski guy screwing all of Germany's best chances. Then Italy scored 2 goals in the final 2 minutes and that was that.

So then it was only about 6 (cos I watched some weird show that was on after), so I had a shower, prayed for a bit, ate breakfast and made lunch - and it was still only 7.

Was at a clients office for most of the day - till about 3:30 or so. It was entertaining and delicious.

Left at 5, cos I only used half my lunch break. Just before I left, had a little whinge to Mogli about something....had to get it in, cos we only had an hour.

Decided to download some more stuff - like some songs that I've been wanting for ages (Bless My Soul by Powderfinger, Amazing by Josh Kelley, Life in Mono by Mono from Great Expectations, Cigarettes will kill you by Ben Lee) and also the pilot of Deadwood, cos I'd been hearing so much about it (in Sopranos HBO circles) and they never show it here (as far as I can see).

Also did my washing, cos I needed to wash my bedsheets. So now LH can relax again.....

Went to bed again at 9:15, to wake up at 3 to watch the other semi final.

And now for the photo.....
First thing I saw when I opened the new Koorong catalogue was this CD by this guy. And I thought 'great, yet another Christian artist. I'm sure he's super'. Not neccessarily being disparaging, but its like they're a dime a dozen nowadays. Imagine my shock when it turns out hes a former member of Backstreet Boys!
Now, a disclaimer: I'm a cynic. I freely admit it. But.....
Maybe its just cos I'm also a big fan of The Sopranos, and am all too familar with these scams which they are constantly trying to pull. Essentially, no area of business is taboo for them to make money, usually dishonestly; garbage, vehicle repairs, stock market....and then, Tony's sister, Janice, meets this Christian guy who has a disorder where he spontaneously falls asleep, and shes talking about CCLI and how many people it reaches; so she conspires to write a Christian song to try and make some money.
Now, I'm not saying nothing....and I wouldn't buy it anyway, cos that kinda music is not my taste.

Trainer: "You ladies are the sorriest excuses for bodyguards that I've ever seen in my entire life. But, your cheques cleared, so you all graduate!"

Was all ready to make lunch, then I decided that my food was probably too old, so I didn't.

Mogli wanted to see how much refund he would be getting this year, so he downloaded the e-tax software. Then he was looking at the example of what to name your file and was going on about 'Michael Stax' and how he felt sorry for poor Michael Stax cos his name was being displayed around the internet. I then felt I should point out that its not Michael Stax, its Michaels Tax. So we were both carrying on hysterically for a few minutes after that. I guess you had to be there.....its probably an accountancy joke.

And finally, he brought some Milo in. So I had some - it was pretty sweet. Its amazing that he was going on about Milo is better than Drinking Chocolate cos it has less sugar....and then he goes and puts extra sugar in it.

So I had to go shopping at lunchtime, and since I didn't bring my lunch I decided to get takeaway - probably KFC. So Mogli decided that he wanted KFC to, so he came along. Did the shopping pretty quick, but didn't get chocolate or Speculas - they didn't seem to have any of the latter.
Then at KFC, waiting behind this one car for like 5 minutes (Mogli goes "they'll probably just come out with a small chips; or a drink" and then it wasn't much more than that), so he starts talking in a New Zealand accept about the 'swut chulli twusta', which caused some more hysterics. Again, you probably had to be there.

And when we got back, my Amazon stuff had finally got here. So I have my Vanilla Sky, Red Dragon and Traffic, although I have a self-imposed DVD limitness, which is only watching DVDs during dinner or ironing, due to my exam and other things, so they may have to wait. Plus, of course, Echoes and Stadium Arcadium.

Due to me buying CDs, Mogli was once again bugging me to download LimeWire. And then, when I got back and I was ripping them, the second CD of Stadium Arcadium didn't want to work in my CD-ROM drive, and the DVD drive hasn't been the same since January so that didn't want to read it either. And I didn't want to send it back, cos I'd just waited 4 weeks for it, or whatever. But it was OK, cos I have the copy from V...bar one or two songs, maybe.
But then, I still have that Touch CD by Delirious? which doesn't want to be read either...so I downloaded LimeWire and searched for the songs from there. And I found them all. And they all work.

Went to bed about 9:15, in anticipation of waking up for 5AM to watch replay of Germany vs Italy.

Am including one photo (though back and front) today of my new business card which arrived today. Then I have another photo for tommorrow, which really reminded me of something....you shall see tommorrow.
But since it came from the Hillsong catalogue, I should point out that the new Hillsong CD is out! Yay! And Word is selling it for about $3 cheaper, plus a $10 voucher....but it will probably be sold out like the Planetshakers albumn was. Mighty to Save its called, as I recall. Reminds me of that Tim Hughes song......'Whole World in His Hands'....(its got that line in it). Anyway, another CD to buy on the weekend, along with Eraser by Thom Yorke - although, I'm gonna have to listen to Eraser first, but on the strength of Hillsongs' last CD, which has those two incredibly great songs, I'm just gonna buy that one straight off.

"Take me out!" - Franz Ferdinand

Maybe it was the Seinfeld episodes I was watching during the late afternoon, or maybe because I was again listening to said song a little earlier tonight, but my brain was doing its usual tinkering, which brought to my mind something I was thinking at some point prior. And what incredibly important and insightful subject was that? The connection between what we shall call 'dating' and 'contract killing'.
In Pulp Fiction, Jules and Vincent are outside the door of what turns out to be 4 what must be drug pushers who will all soon be dead. To pass the time before I believe 8 in the AM when they have been told to actually arrive, they are discussing the forthcoming 'date' ("it is not a date") that Vincent will have with Marcellas Wallace's wife.
"The big man's going out of town for a few days," says Vincent, "and he told me to take care of his wife while he's gone."
"Take CARE of her?" asks Jules, gesturing to his head with his fingers in the shape of a gun.
"No!" retorts Vincent, "Take her out, show her a good time, thats all."
Thus making clear that to "take care" of someone either means to be nice to them, or to kill them.
And then, comes the Franz Ferdinand song. Now, it may be the influence of Mogli, who says that he likes Franz Ferdinand, but that they're so lame. If you didn't know Mogli, that might sound like a slight contradiction to you. But continually hearing this song about some guy pleading with some girl to go out with him....it kinda lends itself to the 'being lame' persona.
And so, not that I've ever genuinely considered that this is actually what they're singing about, but it seems far more cool to me (and this is how I interpret the song whenever I hear it) that he is saying 'take me out' in the mob sense of 'being whacked'.
And it just seems an extreme coincidence that there are these two instances relating to the world of fairly intimate relationships which, even taken in context, can also mean a violent end to said relationship.
As Goran's partner said on Criminal Intent that one time "thats two coincidences. One more and its a conspiracy." Yet the one more escapes me at this current point. Thats probably cos I'm thinking about sleep.

Got up about 9:30. After my shower, I spent about 45 minutes doing some more account stuff, which was printing some letters that were supposed to go with some thing from last week, and then putting all the docs onto my thumb drive. I left just before 11, so didn't get to FCC till about 11:30. And then AuntieC was sick....

I was at church till about 4 doing account stuff; actually, only doing account stuff till 3, then I was waiting for & to set-up Prison Break, and he couldn't do it. Pity...not cos I really wanted to watch it - VQ explained the plot to me, and it sounded really, really stoopid.....much more so than I had previously thought. But it would've been nice to sit around and do nothing for a while. Oh, well.

Back home, I watched more Seinfeld while doing ironing. Then I watched The Simpsons while doing some more ironing. Then I had dinner. Then I watched more Seinfeld up until the end of season 3, then the extras for the Untouchables, then an episode of Ghost in the Shell (so there are only 3 left) while doing more ironing.
Then the ironing was over, and it was time for Enough Rope with Chris Martin. And, once again, he didn't really say anything important that I didn't already know. There were a few soundbits in there.....and it was fascinating to hear him talk about Gwenyth Paltrow as if they're already divorced already......

"Whoever heard of France beating Brazil?" - Rob Sitch, 'A River Somewhere', circa 1998

I've always remembered that quote - it was from this fishing/comedy show (as in, real life type, but making humourous observations along the way) when the two guys (Rob Sitch and Tom Gleisner) were on some tropical island, so, being isolated from the media for the time being, set up a soccer game on the beach between the two of them, when Rob was Brazil and Tom was France, and France won.
I was thinking sort of last night - "now wouldn't that be funny if it happened again?" Of course, no-one likes France, just as no-one likes Italy, except with France it extends beyond soccer a bit more, which is why I don't think anyone wanted to seriously entertain the idea of them beating Brazil. But it happened....again. 1:0. And the highlights don't show Brazil looking very potent in the slightest.

After church, which was fairly hectic what with all this shifting of furniture and new arrangements, went to Singapore Hawker. And the reason was because LH and her friend came along as well; ironically, according to V, Taurus had all these empty tables.....

Watched some Seinfeld in the afternoon. Did a bit of accounts stuff, but still mainly sorting of stuff which didn't really, again, seem to accomplish very much.

Watched 'Cheaper by the Dozen' which worked OK as a comedy/family movie, but as a morality tale trying to push a point it failed miserably, in my opinion. I don't wanna go into it, cos I don't think there is a point.

And I went to bed straight after, at like before 10:30. I must've been rather tired.....probably due to the strange sleeping hours for the last two nights.

Grandpa S: "I used to be with IT, then they changed what IT was, now what I'm with isn't IT anymore, and what is IT seems weird and scarey to me"

"It'll happen to you....."
Homer: "No way, man!"

I think I'm becoming one of those old fashioned people. It struck me on Thursday when I was cleaning my teeth (or something) and the bathroom door was open and I was playing some collection of something CD, and Roy Orbison came on singing 'Only the Lonely'. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't really think much of that song - the backing sounds really off-key - but just the fact that my computer has that song on it and is playing it....
And just then I was thinking of telling everyone about this really cool song that is so funny and that, and nicely sacrilegious (I can never spell that word) in a round-about sort of way - called 'Spirit in the Sky' by Norman Greenbaum - which is from a similar sort of collection, including other songs like 'San Fransisco' (the 'be sure to wear a flower in your hair' one), 'Brown-eyed girl' by Van Morrison and 'Good Vibrations' by the Beach Boys; which I was trying to explain to Mogli yesterday is the song what The Good Guys ripped their theme song from. And the fact that I even knew that was enough evidence to him that I've already become Homer from that episode with Hullabalooza, as the above quote demonstrates.
Once again, I blame V for this. The last two CDs I bought (Stadium Arcadium and Echoes) are a direct result of his profound musical influence over my life; such as U2, Live, Radiohead, early REM....Planetshakers....and more recently, as those two CDs demonstrate, Pink Floyd and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Its interesting to note also, that those first three, although I was, not so much introduced, but began to like, via V, I have now become, in terms of number of CDs owned, and range of songs liked (or loved), far more obsessed than him.
Although I'm not totally out of it yet, cos most 'in' people consider that Stadium Arcadium 'rocks', even though I don't really think it does 'rock' which is why I like it, cos its such a delight to listen to, and doesn't offend the ears like some of their earlier stuff. But most music I have heard that has been recommended to me by Mogli, who, although, apparently, (as he claims) is not Mr ARIA Chart, is definitely more 'in' than me, I find 'pretty good' at best. Though he freely admits he likes a lot of obscure punk stuff.

But I don't care - its a great song:

"Never been a sinner, never sinned
I've got a friend in Jesus
So I know that when I die
Gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky

Going up to the spirit in the sky
Thats where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place thats the best"

It was lucky I had that to say, cos the rest of the day was real boring - just watching Seinfeld (about 4 episodes during the day) and doing account stuff while sorting out some music. I spent so much time in front of the computer, but really didn't seem to accomplish much. I think its cos I was reorganising all this blah which I should've been doing as I went along, instead of doing 12 months worth in one sitting. Ai....

Woke up at just after 8. Was planning to go shopping since it was nice and early, but I didn't cos I didn't really need to. Gonna go on Monday instead.

Hmm....saw that Italy beat Ukraine 3:0 in the end. Although the highlights showed plenty of very, very close attempts by Ukraine - I could hear Martin Tyler saying 'it just isn't Ukraine's night tonight' and 'well, Italy gets away with it once again', etc.

And we almost got out of it, but last Sunday we were finally coaxed into going to the quiz night, for what may have been 3 out of 3. And, of course, we didn't win, although we did come second, so now I have this $10 Bunnings voucher, which I can't see me using for anything.

Afterwards, V invited us back to his house. Had a bit of food, cos I hadn't had dinner. Then we watched England vs Portugal which, in typical English fashion (during this World Cup, at least) was horribly boring - there were maybe 5 shots on goal per team throughout the whole 120 mins (inc extra time), and none of those, really, challenged the goalie.
So there were penalties, and the Portuguese goalkeeper stopped 2, which proved to be enough, Portugal winning 3:1.
