"This is my dirt. It ain't no good - but its mine" - The Grapes of Wrath

Got up about 10 or so. Actually woke up at 8, but it felt a lot later. Anyway, must've fallen asleep again.

Watched more episodes of Heroes - 8, 9 and 10, I guess. But stopped on '6 months ago', which isn't really a great episode. Certainly compared to the ones on either side.

Went and did shopping. Again, not buying nothing exciting. I ended up getting smarties for my chocolate fix, and chili Doritos.
Then went and got 5 more DVDs - The Grapes of Wrath, Mulholland Drive, Good Night and Good Luck, Seven Years in Tibet and Patton.

Started watching The Grapes of Wrath, but I only saw about an hour before I left to go to my parents place for dinner again.

And so I was driving back, and God He Reigns was playing. And then, it started raining; just a bit. So, how about that?

Watched another episode of Heroes (11), cos I was waiting for my hooks to be properly attached to the wall before I could hang my paintings, what I got from my parents yesterday, but left in the car till I noticed them when putting in the shopping stuff.
So slept about 12.

"I had to kill a lot of people!" - American Psycho

Casual attitude day.

Was all ready to get up about 6:30, which was annoying cos then I'd get to the office way too early. With as much delay as possible, I still got there about 7:40, or something. Ai.

Went for lunch with Mogli at Edo (or something) - some Japanese place in Subiaco. He had this rice bowl for like $4.50, which was really big and substantial. Especially compared to my 8 pieces of chicken katsu roll for $7.50. But it tastes so darn good. I also had the $3.50 coffee. Well, you get what you pay for. What would you expect in a Japanese restaurant, anyway?

Watched American Psycho, which was nowhere near as psychopathic as the trailer and that suggested - there was more sex than murders, as far as I could tell. And then, the ending appeared to suggest that he was making the whole thing up. Stoopid.

Went for dinner at my parents place in Mt Nasura. Did some more cryptic crosswords - fascinating.
Watched swimming and then football. And it looks like its gonna be a bad week for tipping - for most people, I'd suggest.

Left about 10:30. Went to be nearly straight away - I was gonna watch more Heroes but figured I could do it tomorrow, anyway.

Marge: "Outta my way, nature!"

Got up about 6:50. Didn't have any breakfast.

Went down to Mogli's dad's work place to do their accounting stuff. Only stayed there like an hour and a half or something, cos there was hardly anything to do.

Bought lunch again, cos I was out of bread now. Got a chicken schnitzel burger, which was really great, but my enjoyment of it was kinda ruined by Mogli complaining about stuff.

And the afternoon again was pretty non-eventful. At least I had some work to do. And me and Mogli tried to do a duet on Melody Pops, but circumstances beyond our control kinda cut the symphony short.

Watched The Simpsons, then some more Heroes - another episode and a half, cos I watched the other half after. So I'm up to episode 8, now. Ah, great TV. Well, kinda. I mean, it should be TV.

Watched My Name is Earl, which was another great episode. Great.
Then SVU, which was another kinda OK episode. Great.

Slept about 10:45.

And below is some art that me and Mogli created at lunchtime - he did the blue and I did the green. Don't ask me what its supposed to be, or anything.

'Afternoon Yak' guest: "I'm talking downtown!"

Got up about 6:45. Had a donut for breakfast. Made lunch, but it would've been nigh on impossible to eat, due to overly flayed bread.

Went outside, and there was a brand new bin. Well, hoodi-ray.

Had a strange kinda morning, with these people ringing up and requesting strange stuff.

Went for lunch with Mogli to Red Rooster. I had a chicken roll, which was only like half full - but the chips were really good.

And the afternoon went pretty slow, as you'd expect.

Left at 5:30.

Watched The Simpsons.

Watched most of Phantom of the Opera, cos Pseudo-Unreal had rented it, but I'd already seen it and didn't think much of it neither - too repetitive and stuff. And I was too busy going through my music and moving all the duplicate copies of songs to another folder. Plus I found another movie trailer podcast, so I was downloading them. And they're like HD, or something - like a 3 minute trailer is 100MB.

Slept about 10:30.

Homer: "Homerclese cares not for beans!"

Hmm, yes, well - I needed a quote about someone being sick. And that's from some episode where Homer is sick before so Marge rents some Hercules video - the least said about that the better. If I hint any more, someone I know will say something about me always watching those kind of shows. Even though I don't, like, ever. Seriously. Ten.
Anyway, so my point is that, although I am never in perfect health, I never seem to get sick nowadays - at least, not very often. It always used to be that I could guarantee a cold twice a year - in Summer, cos of the air-con, and in winter, cos of the general coldness. And they'd always be around the time of exams, too....
But now its like people talk about these bugs going round, and they never seem to come across me. Which is really surprising, cos I thought these things were supposed to be influenced by factors such as diet, sleep and general fitness - which for me I'm sure are all towards the low end of the postiveness scale. All I can think is that maybe I'm like Mr Burns - where there's a whole gang of evil stuff trying to get in at the same time, so they block each other?

Got up about about 6:45. The radio people were going on and on about how cold it was - felt pretty warm to me, actually, and I had my fan on with shirt and shorts and just a thin sheet. If that's 7 degrees.....
Had cereal, then had a donut. Which is like more than the sum total of breakfast for the past two weeks, or something. Must be the freezing weather....
Well, it was cold outside, anyway. Sort of.

Another rather boring working day. Almost got some job like at the end of the day (again), but the disc was having problems, cos it needed this software which is like not installed on my machine. Ahhh....

Mogli left about 12 or so, cos he was still suffering the after effects of food poisoning. He said that he came in cos he'd been away for like two weeks and knew I needed some stress release. And then he leaves! Still, its the thought that counts, right? Yes.

Read a little bit more of The Silmarillion. But the clock in the boardroom had stopped, so I didn't know what the time was. And when I went back to my desk I got distracted by computer stuff.

Left about 5:15 - I was still trying to get that software to work. Without success.

Watched three episodes of The Simpsons on TV, and three more episodes of Heroes on my computer. The new Simpsons were, of course, average at best. I watch them in vain hope, really. Heroes, on the other hand, is really, really great. But long and frustrating. Still, I shall need to buy the DVD when it comes out. Except that by that time it will be about 100 episodes long and thus insanely expensive.

Slept about 10:30.

Nelson: "Here's the grapes....and here's the wrath!"

Am using that quote because The Grapes of Wrath is one of only two films, along with Chinatown, that stand in the way of me seeing the complete AFI's top 28, after having seen The Maltese Falcon this morning (while doing ironing), which is about 23.

Got up about 9, probably.

Went down to the post office, and finally managed to take my parcel. Incredibly boring it was, too.

Then I rang the council about getting a new bin. Turned out that I rang the wrong one to start off with - cos, of course, we're in the council of Subiaco, not Nedlands. Despite the fact that we live in Nedlands, not Subiaco. Ah....

Then I watched The Maltese Falcon. Which was good for film noir, I suppose, and some good acting, and a fast paced storyline. But the plot itself, with all its twists and turns, was just based on people telling lies - it wasn't really a mystery to solve, or nothing. Reminded me of James Bond without the fancy gadgets.

Then it was time for work. Mogli was back, at least, so that was great.

Had a Coke Zero, which was in a lovely glass bottle. Yay!

Then Mogli left at 4 to go to the doctor - something about food poisoning from the Eastern States since like last Tuesday, or something.

Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons. Then I was watching the first two episodes of Heroes - rewatching, really. And seeing stuff that you don't realise when you watch it the first time, cos its all too confusing.

Did some accounts stuff as well. Am drastically running out of files - it is most annoying.

Then I watched 1 vs 100, which didn't start till almost 9 cos of the swimming. It seems that noone is ever going to do well - the last like 5 people have all gone out at question 5 - either getting it wrong or getting it right and leaving. Its annoying.

Slept about 10:45.

"Madness! Madness!" - The Bridge on the River Kwai

Got up at 8:30. Or was it 9:30???

Anyway, so that extra hour didn't do me any good, now, did it? Cept that I got to watch half an hour of Bridge on the River Kwai between 9 and 9:30, when I left. Great. Still being a really good film. Getting better, even.

Didn't have to do counting today. Which was nice.
Had to do quite a bit after, tho. And that was that.

Had Jesters for lunch. Still good stuff. They had so many pies this week - it really doesn't make sense.

Then I finished Bridge on the River Kwai, and the part where I left off, straight after that it started not being as good, cos they stopped focusing on Alec Guinness and his POW soldiers and most of the rest was instead about the stupid American and the sabotage effort, which was just not as good. But then it was salvaged partly by a great ending, despite the three main characters all dying in a short space of time. Or maybe because of....
And with that, I have now watched all of the AFI's top 18. Hooray!
Kept doing some ironing. All the shirts are done bar one, but I have neglected the pants so far. Whoops.

Then it was about 4, so I left.
Went first to Mogli's house to pick up donuts. He was being his usual crazy type self, which was good to see.

Then went to 13 & o's house and swam for a bit. Then watched some Foxtel stuff, which was always part of shows - part of The Wedding Crashers, then part of Herbie: Fully Loaded, then part of Big Momma's House 2. All quality, quality films.
Had pizza and KFC for dinner with a large group of not-so-random people - except for me, maybe. Though I'm not sure if they actually did what they were supposedly there for. Anyway.
Left around 10:30.

Slept about 11.

Bank Teller: "I don't have your money here - its in Bill's house, and Fred's house."

Moe: "Hey, what are you doing with my money in your house, Fred?"
[fight breaks out]

It seems that The Simpsons has done a few million little homages to Its a Wonderful Life - at least three episodes I can think of without trying. Inc. that one.

Got up about 10:30.

After showering, I went straight down to the post office, cos I thought it was this thing that they open till 12 on Saturdays. And they were shut. So, the saga continues....

Had a bit of breakfast, and drunk a bit of coffee. Then continued watching Bonnie and Clyde, which I started about two weeks ago or something. And it also included a scene which was fairly obscurely referenced scene in The Simpsons - where Mr Burns is in his car and is hassled by the redneckishness of Lenny. Which I believe causes Smithers to go on vacation and hire Homer as his replacement.
Anyway, so there was plenty of gunfire and stuff, though not as many bank robberies as I expected - there were only two successful ones as I recall. And there was Gene Hackman being almost unrecognisable cos he was so young. And the final scene was surely referenced by the Godfather where Sonny is shot, cos it was way too similar to be a coincidence. Though The Godfather version was slightly more over the top.

Then went shopping, where I again brought nothing interesting. Although I did forget to get some stuff, it wasn't anything important. And, once again, I got the last packet of choc chip hot cross buns. Craziness!

Then went to Video Ezy, where me and Pseudo-Unreal got that 9 movies offer thing - I picked 4, all of which I was fairly proud of (as in, high on my list) - Its a Wonderful Life, Bridge on the River Kwai, The Maltese Falcon and American Psycho. Spot the odd one out...hah! Slight hint - all the others were made prior to about 1960, or so.

Then went to Jesters to get the triple choc and custard pie. It was OK, but the hard pastry and the quite liquid centre made it a quite messy eating experience.

Watched Its a Wonderful Life, whose whole point is its ending, which was very good - but it seems like a very long film to reach that point. And the whole flashback bit is like; um, so what? Its certainly not applicable to my life. Or most of us insignificant little people, I think. Its different if you know someone, and then they go away, as opposed to never knowing them in the first place. Anyway....

Watched The Simpsons, then started watching Bridge on the River Kwai while doing some ironing. And I am very impressed with Alec 'Kenobi' Guinness so far - he's certainly carrying the film. Though at present I can't see it going on much longer. And we've hardly even seen anything of the bridge as yet. Ridiculously similar to The Great Escape at the moment - its like that was the German version, and this is the Japanese one.

And then it was my favourite film with predominantly female leads, AKA Charlie's Angels. Pity about Drew Barrymore - though she has some good scenes, I guess. But it spoils the overall visual aesthetic, for me.

Slept about 11:30. Or was it 10:30???

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL" - Dave, 2001

Got up about 6:50. Which meant that I was kinda in a rush for the rest of the morning, cos I had to go down to the regular city client first thing.

Got a cappuccino with 2 on the way, cos it was a bit chilly. It was up to its usual rather poor standard.

I was telling everyone there that I couldn't stay long, but they kept piling on the invoices, anyway. Eventually managed to leave at about 11:15, which was about half an hour later than I planned.

And so MD is leaving, and today was his last day. So there was morning tea - but there was only four people left when I got back - and MD wasn't one of them. Had sausage rolls and cheesecake - which was literally cake with grated cheese on it. Yes....
Also got two more DVDs - 2001: A Space Odyssey and JFK.

And then it was time to go an hour or so later, so I said goodbye and that was that. He hadn't got his traditional maglite from the partners yet. And some doubted if he'd get it at all.
I also asked if the orientation bit was ready for the new person started on Monday. And apparently now she's not starting on Monday, but rather the following Monday. Ah.

Put some washing in, then went also straight to Myaree (or whatever) to pick up my computer. The shop told me it was closed, but there were people next door which had the machine. So that was good.

Went to Garbo then. Wandered around in Williams for a while, but saw nothing, so went to Myer. And after a considerable time - more time than I usually take with trying stuff, I bought some Florsheim (I think floorshine, with an M) shoes for work. Hooray. About $119, or something.
Then I got a VVL, as is my habit. Didn't have to pay nothing for it, cos I got the card, yeah?

Then I got home and made sure my computer was working, and charged my ipod and that. Then I went down to the post office cos I had a parcel to collect.

And, here we have more proof that portions of my life would make great TV.
So I get there and wait in line for a good many minutes, despite there only being three of us. And when I finally gets for the counter, she goes off to look for the parcel. Then she brings is over and asks for ID. Now, something was telling me that I should take my wallet, or at least some money. But I ignored that, primarily because I couldn't really find my wallet, cos it was still in the Myer bag with my shoes. So I didn't have my driver's licence. Then she said that like a bankcard would do. And again, something was telling me that there was a card somewhere around my vicinity, but I checked my pockets - one had my phone, the other had my keys; there was nothing. So, she couldn't give me the parcel and I had to leave.
So I got back to my car, and I checked all those compartments at the front, cos I really felt that there was something there. But there was nothing.
So I get home (after completely wasting my time) and I took my phone and my keys out of my pockets - and there, behind the keys, was my AMEX card what I had put in that pocket after using it to buy the shoes. And that had my name on it, so it would've sufficed.
Yes...

Watched the rest of The African Queen.

And in the evening I watched 2001. The greatest film experience ever, probably. Not that its the greatest film ever, far from it in fact, but its an experience. Quite unforgettable, really.
This is how it goes - well, how it went for me, anyway:
You see all this nothing happening with all this music. And you think, so what's all this about?
Then you see some apes doing stuff, then some black monolith, then some bone turning into some space station, with some more music. And you think, what's all this about?
Then there's some guy going very slowly through space, till eventually he gets to the moon, and finds a black monolith, and there's some more music. And you think, what's all this about?
Then there's these people on some other spaceship, and there's some manically depressed computer. And you think, what's all this about?
And then the guy from the ship sees the black monolith out in space, and goes through something what people on weed would like. And you think, what's all this about?
Then the guy gets old, sees the black monolith, and turns into some cartoon character in a bubble, floating near Earth. Then the film ends. And you think, what was all that about?
Then you decide that it was a stupid nonsense film.
Then you read something which kinda describes something resembling a story. So you think, so that's what all that's about. Well, that's just stoopid.
But then you keep seeing references to the film everywhere, and you can't help humming along whenever you hear Also Sprach Zarathustra or The Blue Danube. And you really want to feel the sense of victory when that ape picks up the bone, or dread when you realise HAL can read lips.
And no matter how silly the story is, or how many hours of green fluro lights there are - you just have to own the damn thing.
End of story.

And its official - someone has stolen our bin. Ah...

Slept about 12.

Homer: "You look at this table and all you see is a table. But I see a whole range of things. But no tables!"

Marge: "Homer, that's not a table. That's our dryer."
Homer: "My files!"

Got up about 6:45. Made my lunch - kinda. I just took leftovers from dinner a few nights ago. Mainly cos I didn't have enough bread left to make enough sandwiches to be filling. Though, I doubted this was enough to be filling, neither.

Didn't do much work. Maybe 50%, I think. Maybe.

Read some more of The Silmarillion at lunch. But not much more, really. Was feeling too tired, I guess.

Did some cryptic crossword clues. But most of them were too hard.

And so ends another day.

At least there's some good TV on today....

Finally remember that my parents had given me some stuff to watch - videos - one of which was another AFI Top 100 film, The African Queen. And, since it was called The African Queen (with Queen being the operative word), and since it starred Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn, I was expecting some horribly drawn out romance.
And I was very pleasantly surprised - it was set during WWI in Africa (dur...), and was called The African Queen since that was the name of some crappy little steamboat upon which 90% of the story took place. And though there was a little romance, most of the interaction between the leads (there was a lot of it) was humorous clashing of personalities kinda stuff. And the main plot was that the steamer was taking a dangerous journey down a river to a lake to be used as a large torpedo to destroy a German steamer that was posing as a threat to allied ships.
Actually, I can't imagine why my Grandma would've been a fan of it... Maybe she wasn't, since I think it was a gift.
Well, anyway, I only watched part of it.

Then I watched My Name is Earl, which was another really very good episode. I think this second season is far superior - not quite sure why. It just seems less inclined to go for obvious lowbrow comedy. Though, of course, most of the funny stuff is still from simple redneck humour.

Then there was SVU, which was again very average. However, there was good news - that new partner girl has left. Yay! So that means Olivia will be back. Yay! That new girl was bad.

Slept about 10:30.

Homer: "Tuba-maba? Oboe-moboe? Via-molin? Oh, Saxo-mophone!"

Got up about 6:50.

Was again ready really early. Made lunch, but it was still really early. Ai.

Was doing work for the first hour or few, then didn't. It was quiet. And unexciting.

Got a coffee from the coffee guy. As I said, it was boring.

Read some more of The Silmarillion at lunch. I'm just waiting for the next battle to start...

Apparently my computer was supposed to be delivered today between 10 and 1. Well, I didn't hear nothing about that.

Watched two more episodes from my WWII collection, though it was really only supposed to be one episode (The Battle of Russia) but they did it in two parts. Confusing.

Then at night I was reading my tipbook for saxophone, and discovered that its actually in the key of Eb, not Bb as I had previously thought (since its lowest note is a Bb). And so I went through the tune I had of Baker Street and transposed the thing. Maybe that's why it sounded so cruddy when I tried playing it before - I mean, from that sheet. I ended up doing it by ear instead.
It was fascinating reading, but didn't really teach me that much. Its all like - well, there's this and this and this and this, but you will only know in like a few years or something. And that's if you practice everyday. Like how it says that no saxophone is perfectly in tune - you have to make it be in tune the same way you would sing in tune. Well, isn't that great. Frankly, I'm not encouraged when I hear that the supposed same note can be used to play like 6 other notes as well - only by skilled players, but I wouldn't be surprised if us unskilled ones accomplish the same feat by accident. Ai.

Slept about 10:30.

"I kept repeating the word - cashmere, cashmere, cashmere!" - Cleaning woman, Seinfeld

I had to watch that episode, cos I keep seeing that, like, Pantene ad, or whatever, where they keep going on and on about 'the smoothness of cashmere'. Ai.

Got up about 6:45. Made my lunch of these tiny bits of bread. Super.

Was doing work most of the day, which was great. Great.

Went down to a client - Mogli's dad's one (I tried not to think about it). Stayed there from like 9 till 12.

Read some more Silmarillion at lunch. Got through the boring chapter at least - I think I skipped part of it.

Was feeling pretty tired in the afternoon.

Got a call from the computer people, who said they'd be dropping the thing off tomorrow between 10 and 1. Well, great.

Left at about 5:15, after doing more internet stuff and that.

Watched The Simpsons at 6, but the new Simpsons wasn't on, so watched more DVDs instead.

Watched The Battle of Britain first, which was really great and informative and stuff. Certainly the best of the series so far - though I'm only really half way through. Maybe. I can't remember if there's 7 or 9.

Then I watched some Seinfeld, so I could see my, like, favourite episode again. And cos I'm expecting JFK to arrive soon. Hint, hint.

Then read some more Silmarillion before sleeping about 10:30. My ipod is seriously running low on batteries.

Monday, March 19, 2007

Homer: "I'm gonna make millions!"

Marge: "With cans of grease?"
Homer: "No - through savings and wise investment!
Of course with grease!"

Got up about 9:15 or so.

Went pretty much straight away out to Evox to drop of computer. Which I did. Super. Unlikely that I'll be able to get it back before Friday, even if its ready tomorrow.

Went to Garbo after that. Got a VVL and the Arctic Monkeys CD. That was pretty much it. I was thinking about a wallet, but couldn't think of anywhere to look that wasn't going to be insanely expensive. Then when I got home I remembered I needed work shoes. Too bad, I guess.

Watched the extra bits of The Late Show while eating some 'kinda didn't work' bread for lunch. I don't think there's going to be enough to last till Thursday.

Went to work at 1. Did some work. Left at 5:20, cos I was doing internet stuff.
It was pretty uneventful. No particular reason why.....
Its in Sydney.

Watched The Simpsons, then the next instalment in my WWII set thing, which was about the battle of western Europe up till the surrender of France. Pretty interesting, but really it was just Germany storming through pretty much unopposed, as far as I could see. And the narrator guy kept going on about how France was pessimistic and blah and that's why they lost. Ugh, its so tediously 'American Democratic Values' biased - it makes me want to be ill.

Then watched the end of The Rich List - which was its usual self. Yes.
And then 1 vs 100, where the first guy had all these really easy questions, and the second girl had all these ones I'd never heard of. And they both got question 5 wrong, so lost everything.

Then I read some more of The Silmarillion. But up to a really boring chapter where he's just describing the scenery.
Slept about 10:45. Took a while to sleep, though. Again.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Homer: "Strike three, Marge! I remember that night and I have a photo-graphic memory!"

Left at 9:45, or so, which was pretty much as soon as possible. Had to get money on the way - for myself. From my own funds. Bah!

Finally saw V during the service - that hasn't happened for like a month or so. But then he was going for training after, so I went to Jesters for lunch. And they had the two pies I wanted this time. Also got a 600ml Coke (tho it was Zero) cos of the damn weather. Which was still quite warming.

And the computer was still kaput, so I just kept watching DVDs. Watched The Best of U2 1990-2000 first, partly while eating lunch and partly while doing ironing. And doing that ironing was most unpleasant, due to the excessive heat circulating in the atmosphere at the time. Still, the DVD was good. And while on the lookout for more 'Watch More TV' phrases, I noticed something else in one of the clips that was most odd. But now I can't remember what it was.

Started watching the Best Bits of the Late Show after that - volumes 1, 2 and 3 - since there was really nothing on TV.

Also tried making rolls again, but the mixture turned out to be way too sticky, so I had to just do these two blobs of bread stuff, which also didn't rise as much. So, yes, don't really know how I'm going to make anything lunchworthy from them.

Slept about 11. Maybe a bit later.

"Some people say you shouldn't mix music and politics, or sport and politics or whatever. Well, thats ****" - The Edge, Rattle & Hum

Got up at 12:30.

Watched the second half of Full Metal Jacket. Yup. Interesting film that one.

Went shopping after that. Bought the sliced turkey instead of the BBQ chicken - but I'm sure that it will go all yucky by like Wednesday. Or earlier.
And, finally (cos I've been waiting a year for it) got some choc chip hot cross buns - the last packet what they had. I planned to go to the bakery shop next door, but apparently its gone and there was some random book sale thing going on instead. Bought some M&Ms as well. Wow, variety or what? Yes.

It was hot, so went to Baskin Robbins after, but that's just cos Pseudo-Unreal wanted icecream. I figured it was, y'know, not quite the time. I even resisted buying Coke, though that wasn't easy.

And it seemeth that my computer has once again gone stupid. Started it about 4 times today and its resetting itself like last time - not quite as bad yet but it will probably get there soon. So I'll have to take it back to the people on Monday. I think the right rear speaker for my TV has gone again, as well. Ai.

Went to 13 & o's house about 4 to swim for a bit before going to my have dinner with my parents again - but they still hadn't told me a time. Spent most of the swimming time trying to get leaves off the bottom, cos the kreepy isn't working. And the water was a bit too warm for my liking.
Watched a bit of Foxtel - they had ET on the Sci-Fi channel.
Then 13 came back from looking at houses, or something, and sent some romantic message to some random girl with my phone. Except then it turned out that he'd actually sent it to V instead. Yes.
And some people think I call him 13 cos it looks like a B....

Left about 6, and had a nice easy trip down to Mt Nasura again. Had chops for dinner, which were pretty tasty. And more apple pie.
Then I tried another cryptic crossword, and got about 2 clues on that one as well.
Then watched some more random TV stuff, mainly Rockwiz, which was OK kinda stuff.
Left about 9:30.

Watched Rattle & Hum, cos I still had salary stuff to do for tomorrow, and if I left it all to tomorrow it would've been too much. So I did most of it, but it was hard not to watch the film, despite most of it just being music and that. And the concert bits were really quite great, but there were some strange cuts what I didn't understand. Oh well.

Slept about 12:30.

Homer: "Your putter's name is Charlene!"

Got up at 6:40. But its casual (attitude) day today, so I ended up getting to work at like 7:20. Ai. People will start thinking I'm committed, or something. Need to be committed, more like.

Was finishing off that stuff from yesterday, then did a bit of nothing, then got some new superfund, so not too bored, at least.

W& was finally back, and I have some pretty hard evidence that hes the biscuit nazi...

Some guy brought in chocolates, but they were fairly old. I had one - it tasted fairly old.

Left at 1.

Went straight to my optometrists to pick up my contact lenses from like 2 weeks ago. Also bought some more solution stuff.

Watched the rest of Kill Bill vol. 2 while eating my last four rolls for lunch. Was again amazed that the same actor plays the sheriff in 1 and also the latino guy in 2. Was even more amazed to discover that the same guy plays Johnny Mo in 1 and Pai Mei in 2 - which explains why Johnny Mo doesn't say anything - cos I'm guessing that guy (Gordon Liu) has an extremely poor grasp of English. And also, Sonny Chiba, who plays Hattori Hanso (a master Samurai Sword maker), is also the professional Samurai Sword consultant for the film. Oh, and also, I was finally able to confirm that the girl who plays Gogo is in Battle Royale - I think shes that girl in the yellow jumpsuit.

Got two DVDs today - Full Metal Jacket and Rattle and Hum, so I watched the 'first part' of the former; it is in two fairly distinct (and almost unrelated) 'halves'. Again, was amazed that Lee Ermey is the same Lee Ermey (actually R Lee Ermey) from films such as Dead Man Walking and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - though I haven't seen the latter. Maybe it wouldn't have been such a surprise if I had. Anyway, he served in Vietnam for a while, apparently, and was brought onto Full Metal Jacket to coach the guy who was going to play the Sergeant, but ended up getting the role himself - infamous, they called it. Once again, emulated in the Simpsons by the above quote - there's some fascination with Stanley Kubrick which is just not natural.

Left to go to dinner with parents a bit late - but only a little, and I didn't really care anyway. But, the traffic was quite bad - the freeway didn't get above 70 till like one exit before Armadale. So it took me more than an hour. Ai.

Had some sort of chicken legs in stuff for dinner. Than a small apple pie.

Tried doing more cryptic crosswords, but I only got two clues. Watched some horribly uninteresting TV.
Gave my mum my old phone, which is a few light years ahead of the ones they have. Of course, she was complaining that she couldn't do nothing, even though most of the functions are very similar.

Left at 8:30. My dad said it would take 15 minutes to drive to Carousel. I doubted that - and how right I was. It took me like 25 minutes, and that was driving none too slow, neither.

Watched Bobby with V. His original plan was to watch The Illusionist, but that was only on at 7:30, and that was no good. Well, anyway, it was a lucky break, in my opinion. I donno, maybe The Illusionist is like the next Citizen Kane (ugh, I hope not. But, I mean, y'know), but this Bobby was a pretty damn fine piece of cinema. Not that anything really happened - apart from that guy getting shot - and I'm sure the stories were like quite unrealistic, really, and probably too artificial type stuff if you looked at it properly. But it all seemed to tie in to me - sort of, feeling wise, and it was just a really happy kinda experience. I donno. Anyway.... I don't think V thought it was that good - it was probably too constructed for him, or something.

Went to Fast Eddy's after that. And I had a second dinner. As did he. And we both couldn't finish. Huh.

Finished about 12:15, and the gate was closed so we had to walk around again. And by that time my eyes were getting really tired, so I drove home as fast as possible - taking Manning road straight to the freeway this time.

Slept around 1, probably.

"Still, the place you live in is just that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend" - Red, The Shawshank Redemption

Got up at 6:50. So, I guess last nights plan worked then?
Made my lunch, but I had to be quiet about it (which didn't really work) cos there were people sleeping downstairs what had come back for graduation.

Got to work, and it was depressing cos Mogli was leaving at 12 to go for his 10 day holiday to Sydney and other Eastern States places. And then, after he left, it was even more depressing.

Didn't have much to do for most of the day. Which was even more depressing.

Read a few more pages of The Silmarillion at lunch time. One positive thing, I guess.

Finally got a little bit of work at 4. Great. 35% charge out, then. At least I seem to be getting through most of the jobs. Keeping the Man happy in that respect at least. Or, at least, not completely angry. Heh.

Left at 5:30.

Watched The Simpsons, then kept watching Kill Bill vol. 2. Got up to the bit where shes talking to the guy you can't understand about "where's Bill?". Yeah. I think I'm appreciating it a little bit more. Maybe. Daryl Hannah is great, anyway.

Watched My Name is Earl, then. It was OK, only. It seemed a bit silly, really. Since he got married. Even though you knew it wasn't going to solve anything. And you always knew she was going to wind up with the old guy. Nyeh.

Then I watched most of SVU - right up till just before the whole wrap up bit, I guess. Oh well. Again, it wasn't that good. The new actress lady is just like, boring. And stereotypical too, I guess.

Then I went for V's graduation, which I only knew about when he messaged me at 7 or so.
And though I went there for his and hung around him most of the time taking all his photos with his honours people, or whatever, I'll put his photo on tomorrow, cos, keeping with the title theme I figured I'd include those of people what I saw whom I haven't seen for ages and, really, never really expected to see again, but once I was pretty close to.

The bottom is Sol, who for about the whole year of 2002 was the only other guy (apart from me) in Cell at the time - when Crawley had only been around 6 months. It was his first year Law at the time - now he's graduated with honours and masters (hence the hat that you can't really see).
And the top is Vic, who was in Cell only about 8 months of 2003, but who I stayed in contact with for about two years after that. I remember that I had probably my longest telephone conversation (at that point in time) with him when he was in the process of moving from FCC to Zion; he was the guy I hung around most in church at the time and I didn't want him to go.

Anyway, so my head was spinning a bit when V was giving me a lift home - all of 1 street, or something.

Slept about 12. My mind was still turning around a bit.

"ET... phone home!" - the prequel to War of the Worlds

Yes, I bought the Motorola V3. Went down with Mogli and MD (again) to Hay street in West Perth to the Optus Shop down there and got the damn thing. And transferred my SIM card over, so now I have it and its all working and great. But all I've done so far is just test calls to and from Mogli.

Got up at 7:20, again. Ai...
I made my lunch anyway, though. Even though it meant I was late to work again.

Got a coffee from the coffee guy. It was pretty not that great, as per usual.

Walked down to West Perth at lunchtime. It was pretty warmy.

Watched The Simpsons, but there was naught else on TV. So I did my washing. Entertaining stuff that was, too.

Spent most of the night trying to sort out my phone stuff.

Finished watching Kill Bill vol. 1 and started on vol. 2. But didn't watch that much - it was probably less than an hour altogether.

Slept about 10:15. Tried to sleep earlier, due to the previous two nights problems. Or, more to the point, the waking up late problems.

Bart: "All the best bands are affiliated with Satan"

Another significant quote....kinda. I saw a bit of 20 to 1 while watching the new Simpsons, which isn't that good. And it was the second one, which isn't THAT new and I'd seen it before, anyway.
So, 20 to 1 was about the greatest rock songs of all time. And number 2 was Stairway to Heaven, which, when played in reverse, talks about how wonderful Satan is, etc. Anyway, so they played part of it in reverse (apparently), and it seemed to be like that. Yeah....
Incidentally, most of the list is quite nonsense. Imagine? Yech.....

Got up at 7:25, or thereabouts - most probably due to the hard time I had getting to sleep last night. Thus, no time to make lunch or have breakfast.

Mogli was giving me all these brochures in the morning, which had DVDs on them. But they had phones at the back, so he was trying to get me to change my phone. Decided by about lunch time that I wanted this Motorola V3 thing, cos it was thin and light. And it came in pink.

Had training, where I had to present the stoopid Webb Martin stuff. Yeah, it was great.

Had scones for morning tea, cos some person in the office baked them, for some reason. I think, actually, they wanted to show off their home made fig jam to one of the partners.

Went down to the city at lunch with MD and Mogli, cos Mogli was buying a watch for his girlfriend. Then, cos I hadn't brought lunch, we went to Red Rooster. I said I should just get it to go, but Mogli insisted we sit down. And then we didn't get back to the office till 2:15. Yup.
I pretended to care.

Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons and the new Simpsons. Then I watched a little bit more of Kill Bill - up to just before she fights the big group of guys.

Kept going through my itunes classifications, and also bought some more tunes - Tribute and Wonderboy by Tenacious D and Knights of Cydonia by Muse. Also got the Weapon of Choice video by Fatboy Slim, which the Australian store finally has gotten - its been on the US one for ages.
Also resolved to seriously listen with the likely intention of buying the Arctic Monkeys album. Cos I heard a good hook in one of the songs. And I already have that 'dance floor' one. Plus, who can resist those lower class British accents? Actually, its a bit silly, really.

Slept about 10:30. Had another getting to sleep problem, though nowhere near as bad as last night.

And now, a picture of some key ring with a glow in the dark Merlion thing what an ex housemate got me from Singapore. I had to hang it on my shorts instead, since my keyring is already way to cumbersome. Craziness!

Class: "We are the adequate, forgettable, occasionally regrettable caretaker presidents of the USA"

I'm using that quote cos I was watching The Rich List (quite by accident - I was taping Desperate Housewives for Mogli) and the actual Rich List for the final one was US Presidents. Last names only. From whenever.
So I was thinking about how many I knew - without really trying. And from that episode of The Simpsons, I get 6: "there's Taylor, there's Tyler, there's Filmore and there's Hayes". Then there's that guy who "died in 30 days" but he had a long complicated name - William Henry Harrison, as I later discovered. Then Milhouse played Lincoln and Ralph played Washington.
Then from other Simpsons episodes we have Nixon and Kennedy (from a Duff Beer commercial, and others), George Bush senior (who Homer doesn't like, AKA Mr Wilson), Gerald Ford (who moves in after Bush and like nachos), Carter ("he's history's greatest monster!") and Bill Clinton ("I'm a pretty lousy president"). That's 12.
We also see Jefferson as a lonely monument, but I don't think its ever mentioned that he was president.
Then there's the 8th president - Van Buren (I think its Martin), from Seinfeld.
There's also Chester A Arthur, the 21st (or 23rd...) president, and also a school, from Die Hard with a Vengeance. Though I had to look it up, as I forgot the name. That's, well, 13 really.
Then, from memory, we have George Bush junior, Reagan, Truman, FDR, LBJ and Ike. There's also the other Roosevelt, but I think I've always assumed it was just different names for the same guy. But, anyway, that's 19 without effort. And I only needed 15. And mainly thanks to pop culture. Thanks, pop culture!

Got up about 9:30. It was a nice little sleep. It was even nicer to know that my ironing and shopping was done already, so I could just sit around and stuff.

Started watching Bonnie and Clyde, which seems pretty good so far, although they have only accomplished one major robbery, and have already picked up a third person and have also committed a murder already. Anyway, they some pretty strange kinda people, really. Which I guess you'd expect. Haven't seen Gene Hackman yet, who is a detective apparently, so I guess there must still be quite a way to go. But its not nearly as long as most of those old classics are - its only just over 2 hours, I think.

Went to work at 1. Pretty boring, as per usual.

Had cake at 3:15 or so, cos it was someone's birthday last week, and someone else none too subtly mentioned that they didn't bring cake. So they brought cake. There you go.

Left at 5.

Spent most of the night, after watching The Simpsons, sorting out songs on itunes - cos I discovered this new way of viewing them where it groups them with the album covers. So it was very easy to see which songs weren't grouped properly. Also, I decided there were too many songs classified 'pop', so I reclassified some of them as 'oldies' - like The Beatles and stuff like that. I think I was quite inconsistent in my definition of what is an 'oldie', though. Pink Floyd escaped, for example, cos that was under 'rock' already. Yeah...

Went through Mandarin unit 5 again. It was way too easy. Huh.

Slept around 10:30, but didn't actually get to sleep till about 12. Most annoying.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Willie: "You've got the 'Shinning'!"

Bart: "Oh, you mean 'Shining'!"
Willie: "Sssh; you wanna get sued?"

Quote courtesy of the second song today (Take it All) - the Light of Jesus is 'shinning', apparently.

Got up at 9, but stayed in bed for a while. Then I realised that, based on the number of emails this week, there will probably be a lot of cheques to write. So I had a shower and left at like 9:45.

And, yes, there were hardly any cheques to write. At least I managed to get to service slightly earlier though. That hasn't happened for a while.
Ended up sitting next to 13. Who is like the most immature guy ever. He's like turning 28 this year, or something? Frankly, I don't know how his wife copes. Actually, I think she joins in most of the time. You just wouldn't think it.

Waited around for a while afterwards. But V decided he was going for training - and like Basics 101 as well. I was too hungry, really, so decided to go home instead.

And Jesters was like out of pies. So I just went hope and ate snacky stuff. Ai. And drank like 3 cups of tea - I donno what was going on there.

Watched the end of V for Vendetta, which was too much talking in the end. By everybody, really. I mean, for an oppressive totalitarian government, they were pretty soft. Although they talked nasty.

Watched The Jungle Book after that. Saw a lot of Mowgli, of course. I tried not to laugh, really.
As for the movie - nyeh. Like Snow White, really. All a bit silly.
But I did notice that the same guy who does the voice for Kaa (the snake) does the voice of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland - or his twin brother. And the guy that does the voice for Sheer Khan (the tiger) sounds exactly like Jeremy Irons' Scar from The Lion King.

Watched part of Kill Bill vol. 1, after finishing off the Road to Perdition. I was just sitting there admiring the woofer and stuff when they were having that first fight with Venita Green.

But then I had to stop it and watch School of Rock, cos I'd seen the start and the end but not the middle. Yeah, it was OK. I mean, yeah. Some good music, I suppose. Mainly references to good music. Kinda. I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. So, great.

Slept about 11:30.

Its a bit late, I suppose, since this is (apparently) from Australia Day, but here's one of those photos that did the rounds.....horribly altered in various ways, and stuff, but it still looks OK. So, yeah.

Saturday, March 10, 2007

Principal Skinner: "Get your uniforms; extra small or extra large - we've got both! Oh wait - we're all out of extra large."

Got up just after 11. It was thus too late to go shopping.

Watched The Prestige. It was a really bad copy, and from what I read I think the very start was missed. But, anyway, the twists at the end - for the most part - were pretty good. Especially cos you get really misled by the trailer. Which was kinda a letdown, really. Anyway....

Went shopping after that, so it was about 2:30. Again, didn't buy nothing exciting. Didn't buy bread - just flour to make more rolls. And I managed to buy 3M hooks to hang pictures, but it took me ages to find them. And they only had really small or really large ones. Hence the quote.

Started watching Road to Perdition while eating a bit of chicken for lunch - I was really quite hungry.

Started watching V for Vendetta after that. That damn 'remember, remember' line - ai. I must've heard that about 5 times already, and that's only watching the first like 20 minutes or so.

Watched The Simpsons. Actually, it was the episode where Bart kills a bird and takes its eggs which hatch into horrible lizards. So I kept watching V instead.
Then I was planning to watch Honey at 6:30, but it wasn't on till 7:30 and they had good ol' Celebrity Dog School instead. So I kept watching Road to Perdition.

And I watched most of Honey, although watched a bit of A Cinderella Story for part of it (and the fact that I would rather watch parts of A Cinderella Story - which I have already seen - must surely demonstrate what a....poor film Honey indeed is). The acting, firstly, was really, really, really, really bad. I mean, really bad. It was like a supa lame version of Save the Last Dance, and that seems pretty lame at times. Plus the story was just so stoopid. I mean, maybe Jessica Alba is hot, and maybe the dancing was good, but I just couldn't get past how irritating and pointless it all was. Yech.

Made some more rolls in the middle there. Great. Rolls.

Watched What Women Want after that, which I've seen a few times, and has some pretty funny bits. So, yeah. Actually, the main reason I was watching it was cos I was waiting for a show that was on later.
Also saw a bit of The Whole Ten Yards, which just looked so ridiculously....ridiculous. I didn't know what those people were thinking.

So then they had Chappelle's Show on SBS at 12:05, which was incredibly rude and also extremely short - they had one segment between ads which can't have been longer than 5 minutes. But something about it was just generally funny. So, yeah. Its a bit of an effort to stay up so late to watch it, though, so I won't make a point of it in future.

Slept about 12:45.

"Some casino manager and his wife were found dead - they questioned Nicky" - Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, Casino

Got up about 6:50. Again.

Not doing really any work till 10, then I finally managed to catch one of the partners who had some stuff. Which was nice.

And then I had really only just started working on it, and Mogli came back again. And he said that his case had been abandoned, cos the defendant was in hospital for the past 3 days, or something. So his whole thing was a complete waste of time. Good for him, I guess. Hah.

The receptionist bought all these sausage rolls for morning tea - noone has any idea why. They were mighty tasty, though.

Drove Mogli down to Officeworks at lunchtime, cos he was buying this 1GB thumb drive, which was on special for $25. Super.

Then we went to the local shop for lunch. I got a hot chicken roll and chips, just for a change. Had to wait a while for it.
Went home after that.

Finished watching Casino. Once again, I had missed the Gimme Shelter song, so had to go back and search for it. Eventually found it in the scene where Joe Pesci's character is being charged with all these crimes, about murdering all these people. Hence the quote.
I also thought I'd like to find the bit of dramatic classical used at the opening credits, but the type was too hard to read - all I could make out was that its by Bach.
Interestingly, I found that Gimme Shelter song by going back to Nights in White Satin, cos I knew from the order of songs that it was only a few after it. And that's another movie (starring Robert de Niro) where that song was used, cos it was also in A Bronx Tale, which he also directed.

Watched the end of Snow White after that. Quite a poor film. It has some classic songs, but they're not really very tuneful or nothing. And the queen was quite well done. But, yeah - not much else. Bah.

And after the Simpsons, I was just about to start making dinner when I got a call from 13 who insisted that I go to his cell. So I left to go to his house for dinner first - and then it turns out that they were having seafood, so I had to go eat KFC.

So they stayed around till about 11:30 or something. Pretty tiring stuff. Went home and went to sleep straight away.

Thursday, March 08, 2007

"Come, Shadowfax; show us the meaning of haste!" - Gandalf, LOTR: The Return of the King

I am using that statement somewhat ironically, to demonstrate the incredible slowness of the previous few days.

Got up at 6:50. Pretty tired, due to sleeping late yesterday. Made lunch, using the last of my lovely rolls. Well, they weren't that lovely. But, well, yeah.

Managed to find like an hour or so of work today. Have done the equivalent of like 3/4 of a 80% day in the past two days. But Tuesday was nice and heavy. So it kinda made up for it. Cept for that last hour of admin.

Didn't get a coffee from the coffee guy. Which may seem like a strange thing to say, cept that since like 10am I was hanging out for one, to break the monotonous monotony. Then it got to about 12:20 and I was thinking, oh, great, hes not coming. And then he wanders in at about 12:30, the usual time he brings the coffees back after ordering, with the usual for the month lady down the back. So I didn't know what was going on.

Mogli came wandering back in at lunchtime, being all casual again - loser. Anyway, then he went home. He's such a stupid loser idiot.

Went for training at 3. It was a fascinating experience, as always.

Went home straight after that, even though it was only 5. Too bad, I say.

Watched some more of Casino, after the Simpsons. Finally got up to the best bit - where they play House of the Rising Sun and begin killing off everybody. Got up to the end of that, then it was time for My Name is Earl.
Another great episode, heavily featuring Randy. For some reason they seemed to skip Joy's trial for a while, cos shes still out on bail.
Watched SVU after that. It was a bit strange, cos it was mainly focused on Olivia who was doing her undercover stuff, though not what she was supposed to be doing. Which was just strange.

Watched a bit of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs before bed. She is really ugly, considering shes supposed to be the fairest in the land. The prince is ugly, too. And they sing terribly. I guess it must've been the fashion back then. She reminds me of Betty Boop - ew.

Slept about 10:30.

You may notice the new widget over on the side there. It seems to essentially be like an iTunes upload thing - there doesn't seem to be much of an ability to customise it apart from that, except that you physically select the particular artists. I notice that ratings, however, are notable absent - either of songs, albums or artists. Its only like, well, I like this, or I don't. Um, yeah.

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Bart: "It'll be like the Swiss Family Robinson, only with more cursing. We'll live like kings - goddamn hell ass kings!"

Got up about 6:50, again. Had breakfast and made lunch.

Absolutely nothing going on at all. Had very little work.

Saw Mogli for a while in the morning. The loser just came in wearing shorts and stuff. Loser.

Got a coffee from the coffee guy, but only ended up drinking half of it. Still, better than nothing.

Saw that the new White Stripes album is called Icky Thump, which, although they don't specifically say, must be a reference to the Goodies episode Ecky Thump, which is some stoopid form of karate from Leicester or some such where you hit your opponents with black puddings. Also discovered that some guy had died laughing from watching that show. Fascinating....

Ordered 4 DVDs, and planning to order 5 more. The most expensive is Memento, cos I have to get the special 2-disc edition cos that has the option where you can play the movie in sequential order. It will probably be really boring, but, yeah. Also ordered U2's Rattle and Hum, which I haven't seen but I figured that I need a U2 concert DVD, and that is the most popular of the older ones - I saw the Slane Castle one cos V has that, but its got too much of the more later album (ATYCLB, at the time). I would've preferred the Pop or Zoo tours, I think, but the only one I've seen is Zoo from Sydney, and I'm not convinced the general quality and that is very good. Maybe later...

Left at 5:30.

Kept watching Casino, after the Simpsons. I still haven't specifically noticed that Gimme Shelter song. Again.

Watched the rest of March of the Penguins after dinner. I have to say that as a documentary; it was good, but really nothing I hadn't already seen. But Morgan Freeman's narration added an extra few stars, in my opinion. Same as for War of the Worlds, even though he only had a few lines over there.

Slept about 11, or maybe a bit later. Can't really quite remember why it was so late.

Tuesday, March 06, 2007

"[my name] is spelled 'Raymond Luxury-Yacht' but its pronounced 'Throat Warbler Mangrove'" - Monty Python

Yesterday there was some room where there was these shelves of books, and a whole lot of them were on yachts. Maybe that's why.... Even though it was Yached, not Yot.....

Got up about 6:50, but spent a long time in the bathroom, cos I needed to shave and stuff. So I wasn't ready till about 7:35, then I needed to make lunch, so didn't get to work till about 8. And I had to leave straight away to go down to the city for a client.

Spent some time there doing my blog. Hah!

The main finance guy wasn't around, so I just had to leave all these payments there and hope that he knew how to do it.

Left just before 4.

Got a call from Mogli on the way back who has been put on a case - hah! So, he also won't be around the next two days, which will just make things that so much even more exciting than they already are. Great.

Left at 5.

Got changed and got petrol, then went to 13 & o's house to swim - 13 not being there. Hung about in the pool for about an hour, then I figured that it was probably getting close to 7:30, so I'd better be going to that meeting. Had some Ikea meatballs for dinner - interesting....

Went for leaders meeting. It was the usual type thing. I was technically part of the Adult Zone 1 group, cos I had nowhere else to go, but didn't really listen to what was going on.

Saw V for a bit after. He was pretty stressed about all the stuff he was having to do. Well, I guess.... I mean, comparatively to how he normally is.

Got back about 10:30. It was still really warm. Slept nearly straight away. My aircon is being really impressive, I have to say.

Monday, March 05, 2007

"No alarms and no surprises please" - Radiohead

Also no mobile reception...

Got up around 6:30, I think. I mean, woke up at that time. But I didn't know what the time was so I stayed around in bed. Then I had a shower by about 7, and that was when the morning devotion thing was supposed to start, so I kinda missed part of that. And so a trend develops....

Had a bit of wandering around in reflection time, and I met my old friends, the geese. They were real happy to see me. I noticed that there were still 5, so none of them had been eaten, which I bet was nice for them.

Then we went back for breakfast, and we had managed to get another loaf, and also took most of the milk. So that was good. We were meant to be back by 8:45, but decided that they wouldn't start till 9, so got back at 8:55 or so. And they had already started. Late again.

After that they split up the guys and gals, so we had to all track up this hill in the rather heat to this (supposedly) airconditoned house thing, and did all this stuff.
Then it was time for lunch. Or actually, past the time for lunch. But at least we still got a bit - there were some groups that we even later. I don't think Vinny got very much food; lucky we ate all that toast, I guess.

Then it was kinda pack up stuff time, cos we had to move out of the cabins. And I ended up getting back late. Again.

And then we once again had to go back up the hill. It was quite a bit more hotter now. And the aircon was working even less good.
Came back down again, but this time we were early and the ladies hadn't finished. So we had to stand around in the nonairconditioning, or outside. Which wasn't pleasant. Eventually, the pastors had to interrupt a bit.

Then there was some more ministering and general sharing stuff. And it was 5:45, so I left for the long drive back.

Went straight to 13 & o's house (by about 7:30), cos they have a pool. It was a great temperature too, although somewhat full of leaves cos his kreepy has stopped working.

Then we went to Asian Cuisine (the mini Taurus) for dinner. I had the usual. It was great.

Went back and watched Seven Swords, another Hark Tsui film along the lines of those films that are like that (evil government, oppresses poor helpless villagers, get help from secret society of about 7 people that destroy hundreds upon thousands of evil government people - eventually). Yeah. Great.

Left at about 11:30 and got home just after 12. So slept straight away.

Sunday, March 04, 2007

"Gimme shelter" - Rolling Stones

Got up at 9, cos it was too much trouble to change my alarm time.
Watched about 10 more minutes of Goodfellas then left at 10. Coincidental! Well, not really. It was probably closer to 15 minutes.

Did the normal accounts stuff. Not very much to do, since I had already been out on Friday. Still got to service late - its always like that; meeting people on the way out, kinda thing. Really quite crowded again.

Hung around for a while afterwards, but didn't get to speak to V cos there was all these crowds and while I was handing out cheques and witnessing a will (!!) he had to leave hurriedly and take the bus. It was all crazy.

Got Jesters for lunch. They had Nutty Chook this time, so I got that and a Spud Deluxe. Once again (as last week) they told me that they wouldn't have change (last week a $50, this week a $20) and once again they gave me (supposedly) the last notes they had. Anyway....

Watched the rest of Goodfellas, and didn't notice Gimme Shelter, though I did notice plenty of other great songs. And so I watched the credits to see the songs to see if it could give me some clue, and, luckily, the were listed in order of appearing in the film (as far as I could tell). So I skipped back towards the middle somewhere and found it somewhat by accident, as it totally wasn't like what I thought it would be like. It appears soon after Henry gets out of gaol, when his girlfriend is mixing his first batch of cocaine and then, when it cuts to him showing Tommy and Jimmy at Jimmy's parole office, you faintly hear 'gimme shelter' as it fades out. The reason its easy to miss is that the loudest parts is by some lady, and who ever knew there was some lady singing for the Rolling Stones? Unless its some blended thingy, but I don't think so.

Anyway, started watching Casino after that. And so far I've heard at least three Rolling Stones songs - that one line from '(I can't get no) Satisfaction', a few lines from, I think 'Heart of Stone' and a whole lot from one song that I can't identify, which may have been 'Gimme Shelter', but didn't seem to sound much like the Goodfellas version, in any case. And that's only like the first half hour. Crazy.

Left to go off to Orchard Glory after that. Was driving a few streets away and realised that I forgot my map/street directory, so had to go back again.
Long and uninteresting drive, though there wasn't a lot of traffic and I was able to drive fairly close to the speed limit most of the way. There were quite a lot of roadworks, though. And at one stage I had to overtake two horse trailers at once and had to accelerate a lot to avoid hitting a large semi-trailer coming the other way. Anyway, got there just after 5. So that worked out pretty well.

Had dinner like first off which was this BBQ thing. I missed out on steak.

There there were two sessions, which was mainly an introductory thing and like 'get ready for the intensive stuff tomorrow' like, yeah.

The plan was to sleep at 10:30, but the people in my chalet obviously hadn't eaten enough dinner, and were making toast. Which was supposed to be for breakfast the next day. Anyway, we ate a loaf or so.

Had Vinny as a roommate - cos his family arrived late and there was only 1 bed left. All the rest were fairly old type people. Strange...
Discovered that he had jury duty on Tuesday, as does Mogli. Now, THAT is a coincidence. And he's like a lawyer....

Slept after that. At least, tried to, in the sweltering conditions. About 11:45, or so.

"The boys are back in town..." - that song, by those guys

Got up about 9:30. Walked out of my room to have a shower, and Pseudo-Unreal was there. So its a full house now.

Made coffee, then kept doing accounts stuff. Finished everything by about 11 or so, so started watching The Usual Suspects - mainly cos I like the theme music. Like with Untouchables. I mean, the music is kinda similar. Well, its not really similar, but they both have great theme music. So, yeah.

Went off for CMC meeting at 12. A thrilling experience it was, as always.

Got back about 3 or so. Left nearly straight away (nearly) to go shopping. It was full of old white guys with young Asian wives. Yes.
Didn't really buy nothing interesting. Only I didn't buy bread cos I was planning on making rolls and they were gonna turn out great. Yes. That's why I bought eggs and bread improver instead. Yes.

Got back and finished watching The Usual Suspects. Then I started watching Goodfellas, cos The Simpsons wasn't on. And I wanted to hear that Gimme Shelter song by The Rolling Stones that V keeps going on about from The Departed, and is also in Casino.

So I made my rolls, and watched the rest of Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin (which I had on my computer, but its a silent film, so I started watching it ages ago but then it gets a bit much) while waiting for the rolls to rise and then while they were baking. It was a pretty good movie, considering that it was silent for the most part. There was this bit where he was roller skating blindfolded and backwards around in a circle just avoiding dropping off the edge a floor cos it was under construction - it was pretty freaky stuff.

Watched part of The Phantom. Man, Phan-Lame to the max, or what?
Went and got KFC in the middle of it. Thank goodness.

Watched most of Witches of Eastwick, mainly cos it had Jack Nicholson as the devil. And he was good, but he wasn't given much to work with. And pretty much everything else about the film kinda sucked. So, great. I didn't stick around to watch the ending.

Slept about 11:30, or so. I decided to pack in the morning instead.

"Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you" - Crowded House

Was really tired when I woke up, due to new housemate person arriving at about 3:30 in the AM. But it wasn't so bad, cos today was casual day - in every sense of the word. Yay! Nice day for it, too. Almost too cold to wear shorts. Almost. I would've if I could've. Who cares, y' know?

Got a coffee from the coffee guy in the morning - another cappuccino with 2. Though this time it was a normal size one. Even though I didn't have any money. I needed it cos the weather was damn near freezing and I had to walk down to Dumas House to visit Mogli's dad - on a purely professional basis, of course.

So I was walking down and it started raining a bit. So it probably didn't look to good when I showed up wearing, like, a Billabong tshirt that was half soaked. Oh well. Too bad, I guess.

There wasn't much to do, so I got back by about 10 or so.

Then my namesake+y - the one what got married and left towards the end of last year - came back (on holiday!!!) and brought morning tea. Again. So everyone was looking at wedding stuff and generally chatting from like before 10:30 till 12. Lots of admin time. For a change.

Mogli was leaving at 2 - or more like 10 to 2 - to go to Geraldton for the long weekend, so I agreed to stay around as well. Supposedly working, but not really (as per usual).

Went back home and changed....well, just long pants to short pants, really. Then I took the church stuff and drove out there to get the end of month stuff. Got the stuff and wrote some cheques. Left at about 3:45 or so, probably.

Went to Garbo on the way back to get a VVL. Actually, I mainly went there to find some thongs without the plastic between the toe thingy - so called 'slides'. Cos I'd seen some advertised on TV by the Allmart people what took over Rowe & Jarman. But they didn't have much selection and they were all too 'plasticy' and the straps were too big and they were the wrong colour. So I looked at a few other places, but of course they didn't have nothing either. Lucky I got my VVL, otherwise I would've been really unhappy. I blame Mogli for this.

Got home and I went to print the first bit of accounts stuff, and it turned out I'd run out of paper for the printer. So I had to rush down to the Broadway Newsagency at like 4:45 or so. And I forgot to get a receipt, so I can't claim back the money, neither.

So then I was doing accounts for a considerable time from 5:30 up until about 12:30, when I hadn't finished. I had breaks inbetween of course to do other computer stuff, and also have dinner and watch the end of Return of the Jedi. But, damn, there was quite a lot to do. Thus went listening through quite a lot of music. Which is helpful.

Slept at 12:30. Pretty tired. Still, I was consoled by the fact that I had to still get up pretty early the next day to finish it all off by 12. Great.

Elitism - It's lonely at the top. But it's comforting to look down upon everyone at the bottom.

Despair, Inc.'s Demotivational Calendar entry for March.

Got up about 6:50. My clock radio was having problems - ie, the radio station specifically. Cos of power surges due to the weather and stuff. Apparently.

Another Thursday that wasn't as slow as normally. I got a small cappuccino in the morning, cos I only had $3.20 (the small is $3). The guy offered to give me a normal anyway, but I took the small in hope. That hope was soon dashed....
Anyway, the reason I had to get it was because I had this lovely client coming in again at supposed 8:45 (though it turned out to be 9 - typically) and I needed to calm myself with drugs. Even though they're stimulants. Anyway, it all helps.

Went down to the local shop at lunch time, cos Mogli was getting a roast beef roll with tomato and lettuce - yech! Though he reckoned it was good....yyyeeeeesssss....

Finished watching The Empire Strikes Back and started watching Return of the Jedi - though only very little of that. I didn't have that much time, really, cos I was watched The Simpsons, My Name is Earl and SVU. The latter wasn't that great - in fact I haven't thought much of this season so far, but My Name is Earl was really very good. It was about freaks. And it had that lady that always plays deaf people - probably because she's deaf - like on Seinfeld and The West Wing.

Slept about 10:45 or so. Its cold enough not to have my aircon on, which is nice. Though I still use the fan.
