Homer: "Whenever Poochie goes off screen, all the other characters should be asking - 'where's Poochie?'"

Had breakfast this morning. But no lunch food left.

Mogli was in today, but left at about 11:45 cos he wasn't feeling well again. And I was down at his dad's place till 11, so he might as well of not been there, really. As everybody else said, I think, which got him all emotional and stuff...

I got back some of the queries what I sent off yesterday, with a note that it had to be done by tomorrow. Well, that's impossible. Oh well.

Got a small latte from the coffee guy. It was better than yesterday, for some reason. Still not really that good, of cos.

Bought lunch from the local shop. Got a chicken schnitzel burger. It was pretty tasty, but would've been nicer if I had more time to enjoy it in nicer surroundings - cos when I got back the partner was in the boardroom, so I had to sit at my desk and there was some guy wandering around who was replacing some roof panels and it was noisy and stuff. So I got halfway through my roll and then they decided that they didn't want to be in the boardroom no more. So the rest was OK....
And I took my book, this time. Although I didn't read any of it. Ai, why do I care - its so bad.
Then went for a walk with WAB? and NewReceptionist down to Stickybeaks, but we were actually having a stickybeak ourselves at the NextGeneration Kings Park Club thingy. Most of it was off limits to mere visitors such as ourselves, and a lot of what we could see wasn't finished. Nyeh.

So came back and was doing some work for a tiny bit, then some partner came up asking 'where's Mogli', and of cos its like - um, he went home about 3 hours ago. So I had to help him with some MYOB BAS set-up problem. Then about 5 minutes later he comes down and says that we should go down to that client who is never there. And he rings them, and they're there. So we drove down - even though it was Altona street, which is like 3 streets across.
Saw a expensive Audi (or something) with fold up side mirrors. Great.
Met the clients. They didn't seem as incompetent as they seem to be.....
Apparently they own the whole building. Although, its not that impressive. Looks OK from the outside, but the lift was bad. And, coincidentally, the only client I went out to from my last firm is in the building next door. Great.

Got back and did more stuff. Well, for about 10 minutes until the panel replacement guy got up to my desk, so I had to go sit at Mogli's desk while he mucked around for about an hour.

Then I was trying to finish off stuff. And managed to do most of it. Still.....
Left at 5:30. My eyes were really tired.

Watched a bit more of The 40 Year Old Virgin. Its not getting no better, and is thus getting worse, cos its more of the same, and that same is getting real monotonous.

Watched The Simpsons, Big Brother, My Name is Earl and SVU. Nothing to write home about, really. Though I think they lied to me with that SVU ad. Liars....

I watched a bit more of that show. Nothing else to say.

Slept about 10:30. I finished another chapter of that terrible book, then just skimmed through the next two. And resolved to do that for the remainder, which is about half. Such a feeling of relief, too.

Alert - Charity increases monthly contribution amount!

Yes, the letter I got from World Vision today confirms that they're monthly contribution amount is going up by $4. And while my first reaction was like 'they gotta do what they gotta do', some wording in there about 'we are compelled to increase your monthly contribution' (to that effect) made me think, um, well, what exactly are they charging me for?
I understand, of cos, that a charities costs can go up, and that, therefore, the recommended monthly contribution amount can go up. But is this to say that if one didn't want to donate $39 a month (or whatever it is) and could only afford, say, $37, World Vision would be like, nah, sorry, go give your money to Oxfam or the Wilderness Society, cos we don't want your nickels and dimes - its only dollars that count here, buddy?
Ah, its one of those 'prestigious' charities....
Its like that MS Society raffle - $100 per ticket??? They obviously don't want my money. Forget about sponsoring someones book reading at, like, $1 per book. Even if they do read 100, at least you have some say over what you give them. There's no room to move with these people. And that's not even deductible, neither.

Did my usual 15 minutes this morning. Actually, it was more like 10, I think. Oh well.
Had oats and made lunch....in a way.

Mogli was off sick today. So it went real slow, as you'd think, assuming you thought that way.

I was running out of bread, so only made one sandwich. Therefore, I needed extra food, so I got a muffin from the coffee guy - which was nowhere near as big as he suggested. Also got a small latte with 1 - which wasn't enough sugar.

Then I hadn't brought my book (as bad as it is....) cos I never get the opportunity to read it cos Mogli is always talking all the time. Not that I mind.....
But here it was with him not around, and, though people were talking in the boardroom, they all left about 1:35, so I had all this time.... dang.

Sent off some queries in the afternoon, cos there's this thing which is due Friday. It was fascinating.

Left at 5. I was using my bonus half hour from last Thursday.

Its Wednesday, so there's very little on TV, besides The Simpsons and Big Brother. Nyeh.

So I finished watching Proof, the rest of which wasn't AS good as the start, but still a very good show. Especially since its about maths and stuff. I didn't think Anthony Hopkins role was big enough, but I guess, to be fair, he was dead for the whole show, except for the flashback scenes.

Then I decided to watch Spicks and Specks, cos I'd been meaning to for some time. And it turned out to be their 100th show, so, I thought, this is gonna be great! Anyway, it wasn't. Especially Hamish Blake, who was just about the most annoying that I have ever seen him be. Or most other people, for that matter. Anyway, I turned it off after about 10 minutes.

Spoke to V for a while, trying to make some plans. Didn't get very far.

Started watching The 40 Year Old Virgin, which is on Mogli's recommendation, and thus I'm not expecting much from it. And, from what I've seen, I shouldn't.
But that poster of the ship on his wall that's in 3D is really cool.
And I noticed, from that show and Proof, that I can't help staring at the coffee now whenever anyone has a cup. Hum.

Slept about 10:30. Still ploughing through this damn book.

Smithers: "Get ready for fun fun fun! They're already here, do we really need to keep hustling them? Let go of me! Where are you throwing me?"

Because Mogli keeps telling me to hustle people, and I don't like hustling friends. And then that episode was on the same day. Coincidence?
Probably.

Got up about 6:35. Did about 5 minutes of exercise, cos I needed to get to work early. And, besides, I'd be walking down to the city, anyway.
So I had oats and made lunch and got there about 7:40, probably.

Got a small macchiato with 2 from the coffee guy, but I had to finish off some BAS first. So that took until 8.

So then the coffee was quite lukewarm - and really bitter. Quite undrinkable, really, but I drank most of it (cos I didn't want to waste the money) and it was something to do....

So I did nothing from like 8:15 till 9:15 - I had plans to do the payroll stuff, but the file was AWOL - then spoke to the auditor guy for all of 5 minutes, then did not much until they did the payments. So left at 10.

Got back and all the urgent work seemed to be gone for a while. So I started entering this data for a BAS. Apparently I'm supposed to go down to the clients place to do it, but they're notoriously not ever around. Anyway....

Had lunch, then me and Mogli went down to Epic. We both just got normal latte's this time - I wanted to try and detect the chocolate undertones what o said was in there. And she obviously knows what shes talking about, as I said to Mogli, so he agreed that we should give Fix another shot.
Went to the local pharmacy then so Mogli could get flu medicine stuff. That took a while - 'well, this ones got 2 decongestants, but this ones got more paracetamol'. Reminded me of that Seinfeld episode, where he chooses the one that was made in White Plains instead of Jersey....I guess you had to be there.

Doing more BAS stuff in the afternoon. Then left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, Big Brother, The Simpsons and The Simpsons. Then that was all the TV.

So I finished watching City Lights and started watching Proof. And that's very good, so far. Compelling, actually. I really didn't want to stop it and sleep. But I did. Great.

Slept about 10:30. Still reading that terrible book.

Lenny: "Homer, quit it! I mean it - stop eating me!"

A King Kong reference. Um, in a way. Anyway....cos I watched it.
Yesterday.

Got up about 10. Yeah...

Watched a bit of City Lights (a silent Charlie Chaplin film from 1931), then had a shower.

I thought I had to finish off my ironing, so I went down to do that - and I had apparently finished it all yesterday. Great. So I made coffee and watched Seinfeld. Then I made lunch and kept watching Seinfeld.

Then it was like 12:15 already, so I got ready for work, since apparently there was this urgent stuff to do.

And yes, there were all these things which needed to be done yesterday. So that was lots of fun. And Mogli's sick, now. The bugs are getting the full office tour.....
Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, then some more Seinfeld while eating dinner. Then there was Big Brother and nominations - I guess I probably saw most of it. Well, the second half, anyway. I guess.
Then I watched about half of 1 vs 100, cos there was some guy who was doing pretty well, until he didn't. Too bad.....

Watched some more City Lights. It really is a very good show - especially since its like silent and all that jazz.
Then I did some more accounts, which took a lot longer than I expected.

Slept about 10:45. Read another chapter of that book - ai. I really should just give it up now....

University chairman: "He then told me to 'relax'"

That's talking about Mr Burns' son, whose voice was done by Rodney Dangerfield, whose film Caddyshack inspired Adam Sandler to go into comedy - as I found out today watching a small portion of the Legends of Comedy show on 13 & o's Foxtel. So hes the one I should blame....

Woke up before 9, but went back to sleep cos I thought I didn't have to get up till 9:30. Thus when my alarm went off at 9, it took me about 15 minutes to get up.

Left straight away, cos I thought there'd be a lot of stuff (for some reason) and I had to get money. And drop off the old clothes. And carry some large files. And find a new file, and letterhead paper, and envelopes.
But I did all the stuff in plenty of time. Nyeh.

Had lunch at home for a change. Bizarro.

Watched a bit of Seinfeld, then started watching King Kong - from a 1930 film to 1933 - woah. And man, you gotta love those special effects. And that Diplodocus/Brontosaurus trying to eat people.
As an aside, it made me think of what a bizarrely unrealistic concept the Stegosaurus, and related 'armour plated' dinosaurs are. You see that stuff in insects, but not animals. I find it very hard to believe. As is that most of them are strictly herbivores - that doesn't make much sense, either. Anyway....
Anyway, I actually find it difficult to see why its a classic, cos its really a very poor film if you take away the monsters - the story and the acting are really quite... shocking. In terms of modern film, I think it ranks alongside Independence Day and Pearl Harbor. Thank goodness its less that 1.5 hours long!
Twas beauty killed the beast - what sort of nonsense is that? Seriously?
At least the bit about the girl falling in love with the ape was only added in the Peter Jackson remake - I can't believe how insane that is.

Did some accounts, since I finally had the file so I could file the stuff. Which meant I did like half the month at once. Super.

Watched most of The Simpsons, which had Mel Gibson in it. Oooohhhh... controversial!

Went to 13 & o's house to watch Foxtel and stuff. Turned out 13 was sick, which was just lovely. o made coffee afterwards, which was so much better than the stuff I get from my machine, even though she had beans that were too finely ground. Its depressing, in a way.
Watched the end of The Wedding Singer, then some weird National Lampoon's film about lawn bowls called Blackball. It ended very badly, but there were some funny bits in there before that. A lot better than Crackerjack, at least. Then watched Kenny vs Spenny, which was about which of them was had bigger balls (metaphorically) - somehow Spenny won. Then watched some stand-up, and then a few episodes of Friends.
Left about 11:15.

Drove home through rain which was pouring. Or more correctly, teeming. Or, even more correctly, torrential. Actually, it was probably more so than that. At times it was like driving through Niagra Falls, or something. I wondered if it were physically possible for the sky to be able to hold so much water. I guess it must be, since it was.

Slept about 12. Read some more of that book. Ai, its not getting no better.

Homer: "Mmmm..... forbidden donut!"

Got up about 9:45. Had a shower. Real interesting....

Continued watching a bit more of All Quiet on the Western Front. But only a real little bit.

Watched Seinfeld while I drank some coffee. Haven't had any in a while. I decided to try and make it a little stronger, and I think it actually was a little better. Maybe.

Watched some more of All Quiet on the Western Front, up to about an hour into it. There was this really great like 5 minute battle scene, where nobody said anything and it was just the lines charging at each other with all these war noises going on - incredible stuff. Especially since this is like 1930.

Watched some Seinfeld while doing some ironing. For some reason my clothes are really wrinkly this week - I think its cos they didn't really dry properly due to the rainy weather. Maybe.

Then I went shopping. Got some grated cheese to replace mayonnaise, which I'm pretty much over - I need something more subtle. Also got more muffins, cos they really were quite tasty last week. Finally got some Harvey Fresh milk, but its still not the hi-lo. I forgot something again, though - tea bags. Not good. Might have to keep drinking my green tea, or that free trade instant coffee stuff. Or......nothing. Ewwwww...

Got back and ate some chicken with bread while watching some more Seinfeld. Mmmm - bread chicken!

Spent quite a bit of time in the middle of the day trying to straighten my room a bit, by throwing out lots of the tiny bags under my bed, which are useful for like holding tiny little bottles of stuff. I also used up all the larger bags by packing all the clothes at the bottom of my closet - I filled like 8 or so. Lots of clothes there - although I'm sure the poor won't like most of them.
But it felt satisfying. Sort of.

I watched the rest of All Quiet on the Western Front after that. Finally determined that the title is just somewhat ironic - its not really very quiet at all. I was originally thinking (sort of, casually) that maybe it was like Jarhead, and there actually wasn't really any fighting. Of course, I should've realised that it couldn't be like that, cos this is Germany's western front in WWI, where they were defeated conclusively by England/France. It thus ended similarly to Gallipoli (the movie) - not with the end of the war, but with the hero dying; symbolising the pointlessness of the whole thing, I suppose. The thing that pleased me was that even though its an American film about Germany, who were the enemy, made only 12 years or so after the end of the war, its not really trying to say that Germany was bad - just that the soldiers were unwitting pawns of a misguided 'wiser' people. But that the others on the other side were in a similar situation. I donno - it seemed quite fair to me; most unlike most US war films.

Watched Daredevil, which I don't think was as bad as I remember it being. I mean, it was still bad, but it could've been worse. The ending was really very bad. And stoopid. But it helps not seeing a film on such bad format as I saw it the first time. Which suggests that if I watch The Sum of All Fears again, it won't be so bad. Maybe. Probably not.

Slept about 11:30.

Bart: "Helloooooo, Mr Bush!"

Got up about 6:50. Struggling to do so.

Its good ol' casual attitude day. I wore a jacket, cos it wasn't quite cold enough for a jumper. Mogli, of cos, went on and on about it, as is his want.

Went nearly straight down to his dad's place to do asset register stuff. Gee, that was fun. A whole lot of typing in numbers and stuff. Hoo-ray.

Got back just in time for morning tea. Actually, I was a bit late, but that didn't stop everyone from making the usual comments about it.
Afterwards, I somehow got into a conversation with one of the partners about old testament bible characters, and thus then into old hymns that he knew. So he started singing Praise My Soul the King of Heaven.....except he didn't know very many words.
And then about an hour later he had to tell me how he knew these old hymns, which turned into some half hour + saga of his entire life. And then he wanted to know why I hadn't done this work that he wanted......ai.

Had lunch, then went with Mogli down to Epic to have mochas. Ended up sitting down at the cafe itself, since we had so much time. Were mainly going over and over the sleeping arrangements for the Rottnest stayover in mid-July, since he was put in charge of organising....well, basically everything up to this point. And then we were right in the middle of getting nowhere when WAB? showed up and sat down with a mocha as well, cos Mogli told him to, and said that the whole thing didn't even matter. I don't really agree - I think hes being a bit too optimistic, since the culture of the firm is very different now to the last time, which would've been about 2 years ago.
And then, cos it had been Mogli's fault for distracting him, WAB? wanted him to go to the Frock Shop (yes.....) to pick up a bag for the person who is leaving and who caused the morning tea this morning by doing so. So I went as well.....even though it was about 2 by this time.
And I should say - I think its quite unnatural how much Mogli knows about women's clothing and accessories. I'm sure he'd take that as a compliment, since he reckons he's gonna open some clothing shop, or something. Yep.

Watched the rest of Mean Streets, which turned out to be really boring, and not very mean at all - until the last five minutes when the main characters all got shot. Though I'm not sure if they died.

Watched some more Seinfeld after that. Have finished season 4 now.

Went for cell at 7:30. Talked to o about coffee places - she reckoned Fix was really great. Hmmm...

Watched a bit of All Quiet on the Western Front. Looks pretty good. Slept about 11:30.

Now a photo of Mogli's mocha, cos he likes taking pictures of food.

"It's someone in the wide wide world of web" - Joy, My Name is Earl

Got up about 6:50, therefore no exercise. Made lunch and had oats, tho. So that was something. In a way...

The morning went relatively speedily, and before you knew it it was time for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. We had scones. Tasty stuff.

Then I had to go down to the usual city client, who had decided that I should be there without telling me. Which was great.
Didn't eat lunch, cos I didn't take it, cos of of that whole morning tea thing. Which really was quite big, y'know?
Stayed down there till about 3, or so. It was real exciting.

Came back and was doing some more stuff. I donno.... was in the middle of some guys tax return when it turned 5, so I left. Since I had worked during my lunch break. I should've left at 4:30, really.

Watched The Simpsons, and most of Big Brother. I watched some Seinfeld in the middle, so I missed part of it. Like I cared.
Watched My Name is Earl, which was a fairly good episode. Nothing too impressive, but it had its moments.
Then watched SVU, which was another pretty different type one again. Including Elliot almost killing someone and thus wanting to go back with his newly divorced wife. Strange.

Then I started watching Mean Streets. Its really weird, cos Harvey Keitel and Robert DeNiro are so young and have these terrible 70s hair styles. And the guy what played Richie Aprile in Sopranos. So obviously a Martin Scorsese film, too, what with the juxtaposed (yr 11 English - yech!) pop music and long flowing camera shots.

Slept about 10:30. Reading some more book. Still sighing.....

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Homer: "For once I want someone to call me 'sir', without adding 'you're making a scene'"

Got up about 6:35 again, and did my bit of exercise again. I'm sure its not worth all this pain....
Had some more oats, made the usual lunch.

Got to work, and there was all this new work. Which wasn't nothing exciting - just finalising stuff that the partner had already done. But it was mindless blah that I didn't really need to think about; which is good.

Rang Mogli's dad, who wanted me to go down tomorrow morning to do asset register stuff. Then later he decided that tomorrow is no good and we had to change it to Friday morning instead. Which Mogli pointed out was good cos there was morning tea tomorrow - until I reminded him that there should also be morning tea on Friday. As if he really cared anyway....

Went for a walk with Mogli after lunch. I wanted a coffee, which he didn't really want, but didn't want to sit around in the office.
Went to Fix, which is two shops down from Epic. I got a small latte, which was $3.20 - same as most places. And the coffee seemed to be quite good, except that it tasted quite watery.
Thus I was trying to describe it to Mogli and, according to him, accidentally came up with a new word - avex - meaning, of cos, that is not that good, but it is quite pricey. He said he could think of many times where it would've been useful.

I should also point out at this time that the bit of roof that covers the hole where the air conditioner vent is right next to my desk is now missing.

Left at 5:30. Not really doing nothing in that last half hour. But up till then, I guess there was some stuff on.

Watched The Simpsons, and most of Big Brother. Then its Wednesday, so there's nothing else good on.

Which was good, really, cos it allowed me plenty of time to watch Heroes episode 23, the big finale. And I was pleasantly surprised with how well it did what I was hoping all along that it would do. Very satisfying - except that it appears that Syler survived. That just sucks.

Then I was trying to sort out my music stuff again. Also found some very strange remix on the Nacho Man song (where Homer goes to the football with Ned as his best friend and Ned gets him a nacho hat), which is kinda done to the tune of Praise You. And its got some other obscure Simpsons quotes mixed in there as well. And really very professionally done, too.

Slept about 10:30. Read some more of this 'people' book. Ai. Its gonna be a struggle....

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

"When the truth is found to be lies" - Somebody to Love, Jefferson Airplane

Got up about 6:35, as per usual, and did a bit of exercise stuff. Then I finally finished off my rice bubbles - hooray! Also made lunch.

Did a bit of work before training. Bizzaro world....

There was no video today, just people talking about stuff. Really, really great.

Was doing more work after training. Really, really bizarro.

Tried ringing Mogli's dad for most of the day, but was told he wasn't there. And I kept leaving messages; he didn't call back.

At lunchtime, Mogli's girlfriend wanted him to pick up some fabric from Osborne Park, so I had to chauffeur. Stopped at Epic on the way, and I got a mocha. The weirdest drink I've ever had. Expensive, too. But strangely addictive...
So we got to the freeway and down to Hutton street, with Mogli giving directions from the map what he printed from the internet thingy. And then we were driving along there and Mogli couldn't recognise any of the street names, and then we wound up at Scarborough Beach Road. So we went back down some side street and still couldn't find any familiar roads. Then it was finally worked out that he was looking at the map the wrong way, and we were supposed to go right onto Hutton down to Tuart Hill. So we did that and managed to find it easy enough. Sort of. And then the lady didn't have any change, even though all she needed was like $5. So we had to wait around for ages while she counted out about $4 something in mainly 5c pieces. Superb.
Then drove back, behind this crazy truck what Mogli was yelling at based on the name of it - can't remember anymore. Funny stuff.
Luckily we still had a bit of time to eat lunch. So that was nice, wasn't it?

I was finishing off most things in the afternoon, so the work kinda ran out again. Great. Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, then it was Big Brother plus the Big Brother intruder special. I watched most of it, I guess. Not very interesting. Just stupid, really. With the whole Haley leaving for no reason at all. Sigh.

Then I watched Sopranos season 6 part II episode 7 - the finale minus 3. And there were certainly parts of it which reminded me of its glory days - ie, people getting hurt and stuff, stuff like that. Tony showing some strength at last, but standing up to Phil even though his crew is vastly inferior. It really feels like its going to end with a mob war at the moment, with New York wiping out New Jersey. Which would be stoopid, since from the start its supposed to have been about how Tony's real family interlocks with his mob family. This was the thing; why its not just another Godfather type show. Oh well. Maybe I'll be surprised....

Slept about 10:30.

Monday, May 21, 2007

Homer: "Lets give it up for Table 5! Uh uh uh uh, Table Five! Table Five! Uh uh uh uh Table fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive...."

Woke up about 7:30, but didn't get up till about 8:30. It was cold and stuff, y'know....

Was doing computer stuff till about 9, when I had a shower. Then went off to do shopping.

Thought I had to buy a lot of stuff, cos I had like no food in the house. But it actually didn't turn out to be that much - maybe cos the only liquid I needed was milk. And, again, they had like no hilo stuff. Also bought some of the bakery choc chip muffins. Its a curse, I think.

Watched Seinfeld while eating chicken and bread for lunch. Saw one (The Junior Mint) with commentary by Jerry. Which was weird, cos he hardly said anything. Although, when he did say stuff, at least it was informed. And interesting.

Got to work and there were all these piles of stuff on my desk. So for most of the afternoon I had stuff to do. Kinda. In a way. More than last week, anyway.

There was lots of cake, cos there's a new receptionist person. But I didn't eat none.

Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, but skipped most of Big Brother. I think I'm pretty much over it. At least the standard daily show thing.

Went with V at 8 (or a bit after....) to look at some new locale to occupy for the next period of my life, cos he knows the people what are living there. It has million dollar views.....worth it just for that, really. But its also a much nicer type place. As in, newer and not so horribly old and tired. And the room is a quite a bit bigger.

Spent a bit of time with V back at my place after that, mainly trying to find out stuff about the Hillsong conference. We managed, after a while, to work out that its at the Sydney (now ACER) Arena, right next to Stadium Australia at that Homebush ex-olympic place. Thank heavens for Google Earth. Yep.
But the brochure/website really couldn't tell us very much, so I was assigned to ring up the people tomorrow and try and find out how 'full on' it is during the day.

Watched Heroes episode 22. A great episode, too, with lots of people dying. Plus some of the more 'outer' heroes - ie, the whole Saunders family - are kinda sorta becoming a bit involved.

Finished A Grief Observed. Fascinating. Think I'll donate that to the FCC library. Take it out again when someone I love dies......Yes. Except then I'll doubtlessly be too depressed to want to read some stoopid book about it.

Slept about 11.

Homer: "I'll let him bowl, then, if he stinks, it will be easier to tell him no"

[Mr Burns stinks big time]
Homer: "Welcome aboard! (It wasn't any easier)"

Got up at 7:30. It is like WAY too early. Sigh.

I was also forced to wear jeans to attempt to look semi-respectable. Bah.

Did presentation thing. It was really boring.

Spoke to Ali after, mainly about superhero films and how lame Spiderman is (as a superhero). She was wearing glasses, but, as she was inevitably prepared for, she was forced to reveal that they're some $10 fake pair that she got in Singapore and is only wearing them for looks. Unfortunately, the lens is like quite yellow, or something. So its like watching life on video instead of DVD. Still, she was looking very intellectual - which I believe was the plan.

Then there was the second service and I did the presentation thing - again. It was even more boring. But Ali had dared me from the first service to say "and here comes the highlight of the day" as an introduction. I think there were a few nervous chuckles.

Skipped the sermon and wrote out cheques instead. Boredom city. Then I came back and everyone had gone off.

Had Jesters for lunch. Luckily just as I got there there were these two really slow people in front of me and they were just putting out some fresh nutty chooks. So I got that and the spud deluxe.

Watched some more Seinfeld. And did a bit of ironing. Up to the last disc of season 4 now.

Finally watched till the end of Tora! Tora! Tora!. It was so much better than that crappy Michael Bay remake. But it was also quite obvious that he copied most of his ideas from there - like the black guy firing the gun - he goes and does his whole back story. And also most of it (ie Ben Affleck and that guy) was clearly based on those two guys that got sent over to the other airfield and then shot down those planes later. ANYWAY.....

Watched The Simpsons and part of Big Brother. Had Red Rooster for dinner. It wasn't enough food....
Didn't watch Demet's eviction stuff, cos she's a goose. But watched most of Rove, until after Fiona O'Loughlin, when I started to feel ill (I wonder why?) so went to bed. But I read most of chapter 4 of A Grief Observed.

Slept about 10:30.

Putting Challenge Guy: "You have selected - 'no'"

Got up about 9:15. Had a shower and rang Mogli, who, it turned out, wouldn't be ready till like 10:45. So I had some time, then.

Kept watching Tora! Tora! Tora!. Man, its a long film.....

Went over to Mogli's house at about 10:45. Stood around for a while, then went to buy a box for martini glasses and posh vodka. The box was easy enough, but we had to go to three liquor places for the vodka. I'm sure it really matters to somebody...

Then went and got KFC for lunch. Had these vouchers for the 2 piece feed for $6.95 (or something), and they ended up saying 'just keep the vouchers', then charged us $7.75 for a 3 piece feed. Gooses. That KFC there is full of idiots, I think.

The original plan had been to watch Goodfellas, since I lent it to Mogli sometime ago and he hasn't seen it. But then there was footy on, so we watched that instead. And Geelong won, so great.
Then we watched some of the Jackass marathon on Foxtel. Ah - such funny idiots.
Left about 3:30.

Got home and it was too late to go shopping. So I did accounts stuff, cos its salary day tomorrow, so I had to prepare all that blah.

Watched Shark Tale, and then PoTC: CotBP on TV. I'd seen them both before, and am not a huge fan of either....but they're OK. So, great.

Slept like straight after that. Cos I have to wake up so early on Sunday.....

Bah!

"Let's go back to church" - Alabama 3

Got up about 6:40, but did some exercise anyway, since I couldn't eat breakfast and didn't need to make lunch. Isn't that just super?
Ai, Friday's without casual dress...I'm being cheated.

Was doing work for nearly the whole morning. Until I decided that I wanted to stop cos I was kinda bored and stuff. Not that I became any less bored after that. Oh well.

Got lunch from the local shop, cos I decided that my lunch would be too nasty to eat. And it was either eat there with my friend or go home and have to go somewhere else to get lunch and then just eat with the TV anyway. Hard decision, actually.
Got the chicken schnitzel burger. Not really my intention, but it was crowded again so I figured I'd just get that cos I could see it there and wouldn't have to wait for ages. I also wanted a muffin, but it had to be choc chip and there weren't any. Almost got a coffee. Fate was obviously on my side....
Ate in the boardroom with Mogli, then he decided he wanted to just go for a walk, since it really is a drag sitting in there nowadays. So we went off to West Perth.
And he ended up getting an Xpress, and drawing money. Just go for a walk....
And we almost went back to Miss Maud's but I said I wanted to try the other places to find the really good coffee. So we went to Epic, next door. And it was expensive - $3.50 for a small. Though slightly larger than Miss Maud's small ($2.70) I think. But, damn, some good stuff. Not worth the money, probably, but.... Its hard to go back, after that.
So we got back to the office and Mogli took his inside, but I left straight away. And it gave my car a really great coffee smell. Incredible, really.

Watched Seinfeld downstairs, cos the rental agent was coming at 2:30 and I wanted to make sure she didn't rush off again. So that was done. Great.
Then I watched some more Seinfeld until 3:30, when I went to get my haircut. Which was done. Great.

Watched Heroes episode 20, and some more Daily Show and stuff. Then I started watching Tora! Tora! Tora!, which is about the attack on Pearl Harbour, but gives equal time to the US and Japanese side, cos its the two parts are actually made by either country, but then its all woven together and stuff. Anyway - a long film.

Went to cell after that, the first of....well, the name is just stupid. But its the inaugural one, anyway. Led by 13, who promises that it;ll be really great. Yes.
So it was OK. But, that's like all the other ones, anyway. At least its a little bit smaller, and the ratio of people I know to those I am completely unfamiliar with is a little better. I donno...
Had food after. Saw LH. Cos they're mother is there. Interesting. Those were the days..... hah.

Went home and went to bed almost straight away. Mainly cos Mogli said he has limited time tomorrow, and I don't want to sleep in too much. About 12, I suppose. Cos I read a bit more of A Grief Observed. Up to chapter 4, almost. Which I think is the last one.

Homer: "Mmmm.... something"

Got up about 6:35 again and managed to do my small exercise again. Didn't eat breakfast, since my milk is almost expired. Made lunch though. Great. It was all hard and smelly....

Doing some stuff at work, kinda. Y'know....

Went for lunch with Mogli to Miss Maud's, cos we wondered why we had never been there before. And, I guess the reason is that the sit-down stuff is really quite expensive. Well, not cheap, at least. But they said we could order at the counter and take it outside, and that was like half the price. But then Mogli wanted to check out the $3.95 subs at Subway, so we went over there, cos it was like next door. And they didn't seem to have them. So we went back and got roll like things with coffee - I got a chicken and avocado baguette with a mocha. And we had to wait a while for the stuff, cos they were rather busy. Which irritated Mogli something terrible, and he pretty much didn't let up for the rest of the day, declaring that he's never going back to Miss Maud's ever again. Righteo. Even though they have pretty good coffee what's really very cheap.
And such lovely dessert like stuff. His loss, in my opinion.

Not much going on in the afternoon. Slowness.

Watched The Simpsons and Big Brother.
Then watched My Name is Earl, which was interesting, cos they did the Pulp Fiction thing (or whatever) where they told the same story from 4 points of view. There wasn't enough overlap though, so it wasn't that funny. Except for the introductions, where Randy, Joy and Crabman copied the 'My Name is...' episode beginner thingy.
Then watched SVU, which was another very different type episode with this poisonous fumes stuff. A little bit too CI for me, though.

Watched Heroes episode 19. But not much else, cos it was already fairly late by the end of that. Pretty good episode though. Kinda.

Slept about 10:45.

"I didn't steal it, I just borrowed it without asking" - Jack Sparrow, PoTC

Got up about 6:30 again and did some more tiny exercise. Ate more porridge, but didn't make lunch, since Mogli had said I had to go to the city with him today, and anyway, I only have room for one more lunch before everything runs out.

Went down to Mogli's dad's office in the morning - really early, since I had to be back by lunchtime and I thought (since he'd been away) that there would be lots to do. Plus there was the FBT stuff as well. And I got back by 10:30. So, yeah, that was a whole lot of rushing for nothing.

So then went to the city at lunchtime, cos Mogli wanted to exchange some jumper that he bought - not because there was anything wrong with it, but that he'd bought it a full price and now it was on sale. So I had to go to pretend to want to buy it off him, but at the discounted price instead. Even though, of course, he wears like boy sizes...
Anyway, I managed to get a VVL from Gloria Jeans, cos its like right next to Myer. So that made the trip worthwhile then.
Then I was walking with Mogli around in Myer for ages, cos he was pretending to look at other stuff, but was really just stalling. And then when he was talking to the cashier he talked way too much, so that if you were a psychologist you could've picked up fairly easy that he was nervous and thus lying. Oh well, she brought it...
Then I got takeaway Red Rooster, since Mogli wanted to eat his own damn lunch. And we got back at about the end of lunch, but then had to eat. So it was about quarter past, I guess. Oh. Dang!

Nothing happening in the afternoon, except looking for creative ways to sleep. Left at 5:30. I'm not quite sure how I managed to make it that far.

Watched The Simpsons and Big Brother. Then, there was nothing.

So, I watched more Daily Show, Heroes episode 18 and Sopranos Season 6 Part II episode 6. And, what Mogli had already spoiled, and gone on and on about cos he was so sad, Chris Moltisanti died. Injured in a car accident, then suffocated by Tony on his own blood, due to the whole drugs thing. So....

Slept about 10:30.

"Flying man!" - Hiro, Heroes

Got up about 6:35 and managed to do a bit of exercise stuff. Then I made lunch and had some oats for breakfast. I've still got some cereal there - I should eat that, really.

Still nothing really to do at work. Although I had a few changes to old stuff to do, at least.

Had training from 8:30 till about 9:15. I won some silly little animal matching contest, so managed to chose a silly little prize, which was a silly little jigsaw of silly little Princess Amadala from silly little Star Wars episode 1: The Silly Little Phantom Menace.
There was also some video on super. Super. Actually, it wasn't. But anyway.

Saw a 28 which was sitting right outside my window for a while. Of course, as soon as I went to take a photo it flew away. Luckily Mogli managed to get one first - on his phone. Still.....

Went for a walk after lunch, mainly cos Mogli wanted to go for a walk after lunch. 911 came as well, since she was there. And she wanted to go. Which I thought surprising, as I don't think she has agreed before. Though, there probably haven't been that many instances.
Anyway, so Mogli really wanted to withdraw some money. And I decided I wanted to try Miss Maud's coffee, since there are so many coffee places around there and I should try and find the best/cheapest one.
And damn, Miss Maud's has some lovely dessert stuff. But I managed to resist....
And me and Mogli both got a small latte, which was only like $2.70. And its small, but not too small. And it was pretty decent stuff, too. Not half bad. Mainly cos its so cheap.

Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, Big Brother and more Simpsons. More really bad new episodes - ai.

Then, on V's recommendation, which I finally remembered from Sunday, watched some Daily Show. It takes a while to load, and its not so easy to navigate past episodes - they're group by category, not episode. Anyway - still funny stuff. Especially since its not on TV anymore - I mean, what other choice do I have?

In the midst, watched Heroes episode 17. Which was finally back to being really good after the past few episodes which weren't great. It was different though, cos it focused entirely on the Bennett household, although there were some flashbacks. But the only heroes involved were Claire, Matt, the nuclear guy and the Hesian. Except there was a little cameo of Hiro as a boy.

Slept after that, which was around 10:30.

Homer: "Hey, that's not the wallet inspector...."

Got up about 9, which was kinda late but, really, surprisingly early. In a way...

Went shopping. Bought hardly anything, since I figured I'd use my unused lunch stuff from last week. So I only got like orange juice, cordial, milk, chocolate, twisties and toilet paper. I was actually planning to get flu stuff, but forgot. I also planned to get frozen vegies, but now I can only buy Golden Mix and they didn't have any as far as I could see. My milk also got screwed up cos I wanted Harvey Fresh 1L Hilo and they didn't have it, so I ended up getting Pura Full Cream - and it goes out of date on Wednesday.

So then I had lunch really early, cos I was hungry. Yep. Good reason, that. And I started watching The Illusionist (a really bad copy), which was still playing when the agent came around. But then she left, so....

Went to work. Didn't do much. Left at 5.

Watched The Simpsons, Big Brother, part of nominations and part of 1 vs 100. Not much to say, really. Cept that that lady won all that money - the 1 of the 100, not the real 1. Too bad - the guy almost got there. I think they want it to happen, now. Cos people like me don't want to watch it no more cos its all this repetitive stuff and very uninteresting and too slow.

Then I finished watching The Illusionist, which was actually made worse by the 'twist', cos it was just one of those stupid things that you could only predict because surely it had to be that way. As for the magic - what the? Stupid, really.

Slept a bit before 11.

Tractor (to Bart): "Buck-buck-buck"

Chicken (to Bart): "He's insulting both of us!"

Cos the pastor mentioned that comparing apes to humans might be insulting to the apes. As a joke. Anyway, it made me think of that. Great.

Got up at 9 cos of the alarm. Left about 9:45 and went and got money. Then went and wrote cheques and that, but didn't finish. So I had to go back and write two or so more after, and V ended up ringing me to find out where I was. Then he turned up just as I was leaving like right behind me as I turned around....ai.

Went to lunch at Nandos, cos, y'know, we hadn't been there for a while. Actually, we hadn't been anywhere for a while.
There was like some trainee guy, so it took a while to get anything. Plus it was crowded - donno if that was cos of the trainee guy or what. I asked for Coke Zero and he gave me Diet Coke. Nyeh. Still managed to finish by two, so it only took an hour.
Meanwhile, V convinced me to watch The Daily Show on the internet, cos apparently that's what hes doing nowadays.

Watched Seinfeld while doing ironing, mainly with the commentary on. Which is normally OK for the most part, but the one for The Contest was really bad - they hardly said nothing. And then you miss all the good lines cos they're talking over the top - "oh, listen to this line - whoops, missed it" type thing. And at the end of every episode they're always like, "well, that was actually a really good episode". Yes.....

Watched The Simpsons and Big Brother and Eviction (which Gretel keeps calling Nomination) - and Bodie and TJ are gone! Yay! Although I would've preferred someone else to TJ - Zoran, I guess.
Then it was Rove's Mother's Day special with lots of mothers. Which, as I expected, was mainly just a big load of nothing. Sentimental claptrap for ratings, probably. Although Hamish and Andy were only funny because of making their mothers do stuff.

Then I was listening to music and stuff for a while while cleaning the bathroom till about midnight, when I slept. And read about half of A Grief Observed - yeah, its not very long.

Saturday, May 12, 2007

"Victory is mine!" - King Arthur, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Cos I finally finished The Silmarillon. Yay!
My next book is A Grief Observed by CS Lewis, which surprises me, cos I thought I had a lot lined up, but after that is only two more from the JRR Toklein collection and one by John Maxwell about, surprisingly, leadership (or some variation of it - influence, etc.).

Got up about 9, so I was ready with plenty of time, really. Too much, actually.

Got to the CMC meeting too early. Oh well.

Finished about 12:30, and got a call from my dad just about then who wanted to have dinner. So I said 6:30, as I expected that I wouldn't be eating anything that day. Which I didn't except for some crackers, so I was thus quite starving by that time.

And I was planning to go shopping, but since I had eaten out for lunch on Thursday and Friday, I figured I still had a lot of lunch stuff left so I didn't really hardly need to buy nothing. So I decided to wait until Monday.

Watched Sleeping Beauty, which had a really good evil queen compared to those other ones - but wasn't much apart from that, really. As you'd expect.

Then I watched The Big Lebowski, which I initially had high expectations of, but its from the same guys that did Fargo, so I had higher expectations of that, and that turned out to be pretty sub-par. Although they also did O Brother Where Art Thou, which is really quite great. Anyway, so The Big Lebowski was actually quite enjoyable. I was, truthfully, fairly disappointed when it got to the end and everything was explained so neatly. I thought it would've been better if it had been more obscure, cos the rest of the film is. Wonderfully so. Almost like Mulholland Drive - without the creepiness, I guess. But its quite 'alternative universe' kinda thing. Anyway. Jolly good show, what?

Went for dinner to Terrazza with my dad who was up, but my mum wasn't. Had chicken penne with like sundried tomatoes and stuff - it was too similar to something I'd had before. Then I had a white Vienna with a choc chip cookie. The coffee wasn't much but the biscuit was really great.

Went to bed about 9:30. But I finished that Silmarillion book, so I didn't actually sleep until about 10:30 or so. But I was feeling tired from about 8:30. Ai.

Tales of the unexpected....

Its casual attitude day. So I didn't shave.

Got a lift with Mogli again, although I wasn't sure about it from what he'd said the day before - lucky he rang at like - I donno - when I was in the shower... But I did only get up at 7. Cos even though I slept so early last night I was still tired. And quite evidently ill now.

Then he had made plans to go to Edo for lunch (I donno whats up with him and that place, since he uses the $4.50 lunch special as an excuse and never orders it) with WAB? and 911, and WAB? ended up inviting NewGirl who ended up accepting, which was kinda weird. Maybe there's some thing going on there....

Anyway, I had work to do, at least. Though I didn't really do a lot of it (which is probably a good thing, cos there's not THAT much) cos of the whole illness thingy.

So, went for lunch. I had chicken katsu roll and coffee. Which - y'know - weird combination but its OK. I think I had too much soy sauce, actually. I guess I can taste more than I thought. And the wasabi didn't help none, neither.
Then they had to drop me back home, and they were late, of course. At least, they would've been.

So I finally saw the last bit of Once Upon a Time in America. The ending was actually a bit confusing, cos they didn't show the main thing where everybody dies, although you know what happened already. Just too anticlimatical, I guess.
Still, its certainly an epic, full of classic feeling like stuff and not boring - makes me wonder why its not more widely mentioned about. Though I'm probably just missing it. I think its almost second to the Godfather in terms of there don't seem to be any scenes that don't mean anything.
At least, mob movie related.

Then I watched episode 4 of The Sopranos season 6 part II. Which is probably the best of this 'section' so far. Actually, I'd say that they're getting better as they go along. And that, surprisingly, they don't seem to be just racing in one predictable direction, but its really just as (seemingly) disjointed as ever.

And then, completely out of the blue, Dewey called and said that Solo was on a 5 hour transit back to Singapore and wanted to have dinner. So, of course, I had to excuse myself cos I was going for that world leader's conference...

Decided I couldn't wait any longer, since The White Stripes album is released in mid June and the first single is released here at like exactly the same time, despite it being in the US since mid April. So I downloaded that (Icky Thump - the first time the single is the album title, incidentally). And its weird for a first single - its 4.5 minutes long, with only about 3 verses and no chorus sung quite fast style - but its mainly just the bassy drums and really electric guitar with Jack White just doing his fancy playing thing, really. Such an improvement on that last album - I just hope the other songs are along the same lines.
And the Powderfinger single, cos I already know I'm gonna buy the album, anyway, so buying the single too is such a waste of money. I have to say, its quite unimpressive, really. So much like (in style) to their last single (the first one from the best of) - Bless My Soul - but that one was quite a bit better.

And then, cos they're Asian, and one has been out of the country for about 7 years and the other doesn't like imposing herself ever, Dewey and Solo both came to my house first straight from the airport, and thus we went to Tiamo's, since it was the closest and we figured it was a nice night and decided to walk. Forgot about the impending rain - but that was a good thing, cos it didn't happen anyway.
I had this chicken with spicy sauce - pretty darn tasty. Then I had a Vienna with a florentine (cos they only had those or Anzacs) and that wasn't so great.
Incidental really - I think I still have problems with Solo, partly of cos cos I don't see him very often, but I still think I can't really relate on a relatable level cos he's on such another plane. So I just sit there and be all nervous and stuff. Sort of. I donno. Its weird.

Anyway, so he was tired after that so just went back to Dewey's place to watch TV, or something. I watched episode 5 of The Sopranos season 6 part II, which is still getting better, although I thought the shooting bit could've been done better, and then I slept cos I had my cold and wanted sleep but kinda had to wake up sort of early. Which is why it was early.
So that was about 10:30, probably. Maybe a bit later.

"You've been living in a dream world, Neo" - Morpheus, The Matrix

Cos I got like 2.5 hours sleep last night, and I have the beginnings of a cold. So, y'know, there's some errors happening in the information transmission area...

Got up by 7. Amazingly. Too tired to eat breakfast or make lunch.

Mogli was originally planning to go to QV1 to eat lunch with his friend. He invited me along, and I originally said yes, but changed my mind later on cos I really was too tired. And then they had this argument and couldn't agree on a time. So nothing happened there.

So, we went with WAB? to Coast Cafe in West Perth. I had a white Vienna (a proper one this time - although it wasn't that good) and a calzone - which wasn't very authentic, I don't think. It was almost exactly like a foccacia type thing - more herby, maybe. And not cheesy enough.

Didn't do any work till 10:30, when I managed to catch like this one partner who could give me anything. And he spent half an hour explaining it....

Went for training in the afternoon. And we had the really bad guy, and it was really, really boring. All round badness, really.

Watched The Simpsons (they've finally gone back to older episodes) and Big Brother. Then I watched My Name is Earl, which was just one big parody of Cops. Which was funny, but there was no list stuff going on. Kinda strange, really.
Then there was SVU, which was a much better episode than the average this season. And Elliot and Olivia like weren't in it at all. Just Ice-T and this guest guy who is like an Indian - I think he was in Windtalkers and such things.

Then I went to bed. At like 9:30.

"The only thing morning guy can do is sleep in often enough so that day guy loses his job, so evening guy can't afford to go out no more" - Seinfeld

I mentioned that to V at what must've been about 1AM, cos I was evening guy then, and, frankly, I'm not gonna give up staying out with my friend for some stoopid little thing like getting enough sleep so I can work properly. Puh-lease!

Woke up at 6 and almost had enough energy to get out of bed. But didn't. So got up at 6:40 or so instead.

Ran quite completely out of work fairly early on. Probably had enough to last until just before lunchtime, and then someone gave me something at lunch time that took the hour afterwards. Certainly did nothing in the afternoon from 3 onwards. Even though I stayed till 5:30....

So I spent most of the day going through about 10 of those handaround update things that you're supposed to 'pass on promptly'. There was a couple from February..... Well, they're all done now.

Watched The Simpsons, which, coincidentally, was about making a movie based on a comic book....
"up and lets go"

Watched Big Brother and the start of the Golden Key entry show, which wasn't quite as random as I had first thought - I was wondering how it would work like that. So I saw two blond girls and some really irritating guy.

Went to watch Spiderman 3 with V at 8:30. It was a lot better than the first two, I thought - it seemed to flow more naturally, or something. Although it was very irritating that the relationship between Peter and MJ wasn't resolved properly - too obviously setting it up for another sequel. There wasn't really any evidence that he had learned his lesson from the start of the film. Still, the effects were great. And although it was fairly predictable and repetitive, it wasn't boring.

Then V was hungry, so we went to Fast Eddy's. And, as I alluded to, he was saying early on (relatively) that we should probably go cos it was getting late. But....
Managed to go through pretty much everything that was going on, including the probability of going to Hillsong in early July, cos, coincidentally, he was already planning to go to Sydney around that time. I don't think I wanna think about that, tho.
And so after all that, he checked his watch thinking it was about 1 and seeing it was almost 3. So he thought it would be advisable to leave about then.

Slept after taking my washing out of the machine - but not hanging it out. Cos, y'know, it was 3:30.

"This....is really amazing" - Professor Pacoli, The Fifth Element

I used that quote yesterday (at least, a variation of it) cos 13 told me that o was starting work, which was nearby me. And then I was thinking of it this morning and I just couldn't remember where it came from, even though I was doing exhaustive internet searches. And it finally hit me about 11AM or something.

Got up about 6:50. I was tired due to last night's lateness.

Watched a bit of the start of the last Seinfeld episode for season 3 while waiting for Mogli. He actually came earlier than I was expecting.

Had training for about half an hour. Watched a video on large proprietary company reporting obligations - um, relevance city....

Got a coffee from the coffee guy. I decided to try and macchiatio, since I was pretty tired, and, y'know. And it was strong, but compared to his latte's, nowhere near as strong as it should've been.

Had lunch, then Mogli drove me back home to get my car, since apparently he wanted to go into the city after work he was giving some relative a lift, or something. Lucky for him, someone else had a spare spot.

Pretty much ran out of work by 4 or so. Left at 5 anyway....

Watched the Simpsons, but nothing else, cos there was a MLE meeting.
And I was shocked when I discovered somewhere in the middle there that V was there, cos he said he would be then he changed his mind. There you go.
So I had planned to leave when they did the cell bit, even though I was supposed to speak to Ps Benny after. But then I had to talk to V anyway, so I stayed. Even though that cell bit is really boring. And doesn't involve me at all.
So I spoke to Ps Benny after. Not really necessary. Oh well. Filled in some time. Cos those 13:30s are so slow.

Got back about 10:30 and hung my washing out. Then went to sleep. Too late again. Ah...

"It seemed like a good idea at the time" - John Farnham

Like most things....

Got up about 9, which was a pretty nice time.

Rang the NAB first off, cos there was this weird FCC thing going on. They couldn't tell me nothing.

Went shopping about 10. Went to Coles, cos I really wanted the cheap steak. And they didn't have any cheap steak. So I got lamb chops play along instead. They also don't have the frozen vegies I like - Golden Mix - with onion and capsicum. I also got Hazelnut Quattros - yay!

Watched a bit of Seinfeld while having tea and chicken (just chicken) for lunch. I'm almost at the end of season 3 now, which means season 4 is coming up, which I don't think much of despite it winning the Emmy's and stuff...

Wore my glasses to work. Don't know why, really.

A new guy started today, in audit. Apparently his name is Michael St John. Ooohh....
Therefore there was morning tea. And there was still two pies and a sausage roll left over, so I ate those. Great.

Not much else going on, really.

Mogli's parents are away, so he is driving to work but doesn't have a car bay. So he wants to use mine tomorrow, so I'll be late for work cos I start at 8 and he doesn't start till 8:30. Oh well.

Watched The Simpsons, Big Brother and then most of the nomination show. But I only saw the first few minutes of 1 vs 100 (after I changed channel at like 8:45) and the lady was on $96k and got the snottygobble question wrong (my parents have one growing on their property), so I stopped.

Did accounts. It took a long time, of course. Didn't finish till 11:30+.

Sunday, May 06, 2007

"We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park and reminiscing" - Madison Avenue (well, they did a remake of it....)

Got up about 8:30. It was too early, but I'd drunk 3 cups of tea by 11, so that helped, I'm sure.

Had a shower and went downstairs for my first tea, and nothing was there, cos everything was set up in the carport for the whole entourage for some big communal breakfast thing. And it was raining (which continued almost non-stop till about 12, except for one sunny break), so the deck was no good.

So everyone showed up and there was all that stuff. Bacon and eggs was, like, the main dish, but I'm not a big fan of eggs and bacon doesn't agree with me unless I'm in the right mood, which I wasn't due to the impending long drive back. So I just had fruit toast and wholegrain muffins. Ai....

Everyone left about 12, so we left just a bit after that.

On the way back, cos it was still quite early for my brother's flight, we drove through Mandurah trying to find our old holiday house, without success. Not that if we did find it it would've done much for me - really, nothing looked familiar at all.

Got back to my house about 4, cos I had another bag of stuff of theirs. Then we went to the airport. We had planned that they would check-in and then we would get food, or something. But the lines were insane and would've taken at least 15 minutes, and it was already 4:30. So I just left. And forgot to pay my brother for the camera half.....

Got back home and did all the usual getting home stuff, like charging my phone and ipod and getting the photos off my camera and checking mail, and seeing that I got 4 yet again in footy tipping - that's the first 6 weeks straight.

Watched Seinfeld (the Limo) and part of The Simpsons (which wasn't that good....), then went and got Hungry Jacks for dinner. I've gotten KFC for most of the past times when I get fast food, cos they have those fillers and they're really great. But I saw the ads for that mushroom and bacon sourdough supreme, so I thought I should try that, but I always wanted KFC instead - even though the line for the Hungry Jacks drivethrough was always so much shorter. So this time, of course, the KFC line was short (only two cars) and the Hungry Jacks line was long. And - they didn't have that burger. As if I couldn't have predicted it.....

Spoke to V who had rung when my phone was out of range and out of batteries. He reckons he's found me a place to live - worth his weight in gold that guy is. It probably won't turn out though. Still....

Uncles P & J came over about 7:30, cos apparently the case I had taken was really important after all so he couldn't wait till tomorrow when he was gonna pick it up from work. Right. Again - very predictable.

Watched most of Big Brother and the eviction. So, Kate left. Super.

Watched most of Collateral after that, but it was far more boring this time around. And stoopid. Donno why. Bah...

Read some more Silmarillion, which is the brief history of the rings, and is thus finally describing the stuff I want to see described, like Minas Ithil becoming Minas Morgul, and Minas Anor becoming Minas Tirith and stuff along those lines.

Slept about 12.

"Welcome to the jungle..." - Guns N' Roses

A reference to the myriad of people. Actually, it was more like a zoo.

Got up about 9. It was very dark. Could've been any time, really. That's what you get for sleeping in an attic.

Had a shower and a bit of toast. Then I had just started on tea when the first of the other rellos turned up, being my mum's youngest sister, her two youngest children and the youngest's boyfriend. She (aunt A) said that most of the rest (of the adults, at least) would be over soon to collect the huge wad of beef, which was being cooked on a webber and would thus take 4 hours. It was about 10 by this time.

Then along came the rest considerably later (being aunt A's husband, aunt G and her husband), and there was much confusion. Then they all left with meat, gas bottle and considerable other food and cutlery. Due to the fact that lunch was now not going to be till 2+, we all decided to hang around the house a bit more.

Went for a bit of a walk down the back, where there wasn't much change except for lots more green. I was expecting the dam to be half full, but it was only a bit more muddy at the bottom. There was a lot of fungus though, which was nice. "Fungicide? Fungus?" from Seinfeld was all I could think of.
Then I read a bit more of the Silmarillion, but not much more cos people were talking and I found it 'hard to concentrate', as Red Hot Chili Peppers would say.

Then we all went over, at about 12:30, I guess. The weather was threatening, but it didn't rain. So we were all outside for most of the time, except for the aunts etc, who seemed to enjoy being stressed out in the kitchen - a case of too many cooks, probably. A little while later, up turned cousin C, her partner and her 4 children - my second cousins (I think).
Saw some tame forest chickens.
Spoke to Mogli about bad work. Phone ran out of batteries in the middle of the conversation, so had to ring back on dad's phone. Resolved that we should try to find a new job for both of us together somewhere else.
In the middle of that conversation as well, I finished the coke that I was drinking, and tipped out the drips, which caused all 10 forest chickens to come rushing up and hang around. Yes. Extra confirmation that chickens are really quite stoopid.
Cousin L and her friend finally showed up after being lost - and people weren't surprised.

Had lunch then, consisting of webbered beef and various amounts of other dishes. There was, of course, way too much food.
Then there was cake and another cake, and my mum got some presents, including a digital camera which was from me and my brother. Of course, she had problems using it...

Then we continued hanging around till the late evening. I was talking with the uncles (two directly, two in-law) about stuff. There was a lot of debate about fate vs. luck. Which is really quite pointless, cos, unless you have an answer (like me) its just pure speculation. Still, both uncle J (on fate) and uncle P (on luck) were utterly convinced they were right. Nevermind....

Watched Rockwiz. I didn't have any idea about any answer. Left after that.

Read to the end of the second book in The Silmarillion. It really was quite short....
Slept about 11.

And now a picture of the Ryan clan. Minus uncle D, who couldn't make it. Note that my mum should be in the middle, but, apparently, it had to be colour balanced...
Also note the 'special candles' on the cake at the top. Um....specialness. Yes....

"Want to surprise your friends? Why not send them a cup of cold sick? It may cost less than you think!" - Monty Python

Got up about 6:25. Did some exercise till about 6:45, then had a shower. I was trying to be slow, but I ended up being ready about 7:30, anyway. So I watched some Seinfeld. Then Mogli showed up about 7:45 - like 30 minutes early, or something.

Had a really stupid day at work. Renewed my conviction to stay as shortly as possible.

Got a lift home from Mogli after he had eaten lunch. Saw LH walking past my house. Hmmm; suspicious.

Packed my bags and then left to go to the airport. That was at 2:30. I was supposed to be there at 3, but I intentionally wanted to be late, cos I figured that they wouldn't be there at 3. So I went and got petrol first, which I needed to, anyway. Then there was heaps of traffic, and a jam on the last part of Tonkin highway. So I was actually about 15 minutes late. But that was OK, cos my brother only got out 5 minutes before.

Went down Leach highway. I had to pick up stuff from FCC, so we then got onto Roe and went to the freeway that way.
It was then a very terrible drive through bad radio, heavy traffic and intermittent rain. Probably the worst drive down south I've ever had. Got there just after 7.

Dinner still wasn't ready, but it didn't take much longer, I guess. Saw uncles P & J. Ate lots of food, cos it was the only thing I'd had all day, apart from a few work biscuits and cake.

Watched most of the football, until it was beyond doubt that Carlton would lose. Then went to bed, about 11:30. Read a bit more of the second part of The Silmarillion.

"Schumann went mad from one note - couldn't get it out of his head. I think it was an A" - Seinfeld

Had a dream about NewGirl reading my blog and thinking everything was a joke, as she seems to. Perhaps. Shows how bored I was yesterday - I just can't think of anything else now.

Got up about 6:15, or so. Spent a long time trying to make it so my legs wouldn't hurt. It didn't really work...
I also figured that since I was gonna be walking down to the city that I didn't need to do as long. So I didn't. Yeah, it was so worth it.

Had some more porridge. I think I made it a little better. Sweet.

Got to work about 7:40 and left straight away so I could walk really slow. Its still just not quite cold enough, though. I almost got a coffee - lucky I didn't. The lift worked on the way up, but it doesn't seem to want to be called from our floor, so I walked down the other stairs. Interesting.

Tried to stay as long as I could at the city client, but they still didn't have the stuff I wanted up to date up to date, so I left about 1:45. Still, managed to take some breaks and eat some muffins. Also had a nice long chat to Mogli (AKA Minty) cos he had finished his CPA exam. Ironically (or perhaps subconsciously) he rang just after I'd finished having the muffins (which I thought were apple, though they had no pieces of apple in them - lovely!) where I was chatting with the finance guy - AKA, the guy from Hey Hey its Saturday - about how crappy the two accounting professions actually are.

Got back at 2:15 and had lunch. Then I came out at 2:45, and there was some probably new graduate person being shown around, whose name was Leny, or something similar. Apparently she wants to be a partner. Yeah - just wait a while, as Red would say; maybe that's because he's Irish?

There was much controversial talk in the afternoon. So maybe we should just forget that.
Suffice to say that the liveliest conversation of the day in the firm involving me concerned my shock that the teabag jar was filled with decaffeinated Tetley! Ew - no caffeine? So I went and voiced my utter disgust to NewGirl, who informed me how angry she was with whoever it was that filled up the jar - since they were her teabags, and she'd only ever drunk decaffeinated. She also had some tin of Milo. So now we're both angry. Great. I ended up having another cup, since obviously the first one didn't do no good. And, of course, that one didn't do no good, neither. Ai. Its gonna kill me.

Left at 5, due to my shortened lunchbreak.

Watched The Simpsons. I've said my bit about that.

Tried to tell Mogli as much gossip as possible, since he was finally in a receptive mood. But not much has really happened, so... Gee, tomorrow is gonna be so different. Giving me a lift in the morning, too. Crazyness.

Watched Big Brother. As Mogli says, you know its just wasting your time, but you can't keep yourself away. Not at the moment, anyway.

Watched a bit more of Once Upon a Time in America, so there's only an hour left to go, now. And, I guess its all about to come crashing down, cos things have been going pretty well, so far.

Watched My Name is Earl, which was pretty good, though not one of the best. Better than last week, anyway. I liked Joy's 'happy angry' bit, and was especially impressed with the subtle inclusion of Time After Time (in Spanish) - Randy's breakup song from a previous episode. A lot of the rest was just cheap slapstick humour. But.... oh well.

Had a talk with V sometime in there, who, just like Sunday, seemed to be on the verge of saying something but then not. Sometimes I think he's a lot more like me than he appears at other times....
Anyway, so he said that he might know of some rentable place. So, that's nice, then.

Watched SVU, which was another better than usual episode for this season, but it just can't compare to the previous ones I've seen. The honeymoon's over, I think.... only lasted 7 years, or so. But that means I'll have to find a new crime drama, and I don't like my choices. Unless I go back to Criminal Intent. Oy veh. Otherwise? Numbers, CSI, NCIS? Ewwwww.

Wrote another paragraph of my story. Its amazing, really.

Slept past 11.

"A holiday? You need a break from waking up at 11 every day?" - Seinfeld

Just think of all those other things I could be doing instead of accounting. Like, anything...

Got up about 6:10, so I managed to do a bit of exercise, and only one of my legs was hurting, so that was good. But I was pretty tired like all day, even with like 4 (half) cups of tea.
And I had oats for breakfast. Actually, I think I put too much milk in - it was quite, y'know, sloppy.

Spent most of the day doing deceased estates. Is that not depressing or what?

I was not going to get a coffee, then I decided that I should, then the guy just walks straight past anyway. And he mentioned it as he was leaving, but he was already out of earshot before I could say anything. Oh well - live and let die, as they say.

Read two chapters of The Silmarillion, and that was the end of the main section of the book. Then there's this like really short bit, which is only one chapter long. And the rest is a brief retelling (well, it covers about 3000 years) of the rest of the history up to and including the whole LOTR thing, but from a wider perspective. And I have to say, the final battle was a bit of letdown. I mean, it was just a sweep, really. The good gods finally got their act together and their people just swept through and destroyed this impregnable fortress like nothing. Ai. Oh well. Big bad guy gone. Small bad guy still around - and that's the one they are afraid to even mention by name in LOTR. Just imagine if big bad guy was still around then - hah!

Afternoon was super sleep inducing. I didn't do much work, cos I could hardly even concentrate. Managed to secure an appointment with a client, so that should take up most of my day tomorrow. Gee, won't NewGirl have an exciting time then! Not that she really ever says anything, anyway. And when she does, I don't know if its to me or to herself.

Left at 5:30.

Watched The Simpsons and Big Brother. Gee, haven't they hit a goldmine with that?

Had the Caesar filler from KFC for dinner - haven't had KFC for ages, man. Like not since me and Mogli had lunch there about a month ago. I don't think.

Watched a bit of Seinfeld. Just bloopers and Jerry's standup stuff.

Then wrote a bit more of my story. But I'm trying to do a confusing lawyer speech, so its hard work thinking up enough big words.

Slept about 10:30. Again.

Retirement - Because you've given so much of yourself to the company that you don't have anything left we can use.

May's entry from the Demotivational calendar.

I'd just like to say congratulations to Perth for almost doubling its average rainfall for April (like 70+ compared to 42), making it the wettest April for 5 years. But what's depressing about that (for me) is that the average for May is like 119, or something - so really, 70+ don't mean goose-pimples in terms of that we're all still going dry up and die slowly and painfully of thirst, after getting really bad headaches. On the flip side, all those people that don't like rain are gonna be really, really complaining if we even have average rainfall for winter.
As that Fiddler on the Roof guy said when told that riches was a curse:
"May the Lord strike me with it. And may I never recover!"
I'm praying for a Noah experience, myself....
And speaking of winter, and its greatest identifier of freezing weather, it hasn't, incidentally started yet. I'm always worried that this year its not gonna be cold cos I look that its like 22 and I'm still wearing shorts fairly comfortably. But its still got a month to go, really. And it always manages to shock me with its eventual freezingness.

My exercise routine has taken a sudden setback - apparently I forgot to set my alarm this morning. I was actually awake really early (somehow), but I assumed it was earlier, so I was waiting for the alarm to go off and it didn't, so I looked at the time and it was 6:50. Oy veh!

Well, my mentee Mogli is away studying for his exam on Thursday, so it was an even more exciting day than usual.

Got a coffee from the coffee guy. It probably wasn't as bad as the usual. But I only drank about half and then it was cold.

Read a chapter of The Silmarillion at lunch. Gee, it was pretty dull. Why can't they just have the big war to end all wars already?

Nothing going on in the afternoon, as the morning. I was planning to do a FBT return, and then it turned out that our tax software hasn't been updated. So, great.

Left at 5. Hurriedly. They said the lift wasn't working - like I cared.

Watched The Simpsons, then Big Brother, then more Simpsons. And all those Simpsons pretty much sucked big time.
And I discovered that Christian Girl on Big Brother is actually a Mormon. Bah! And to think I've been subconsciously on her side all this time. Evil heathen....

Hung out my washing amidst threatening clouds and 99% humidity smelling air. Oh well. What can you do?

Watched some Seinfeld, which was the commentary on The Pez Dispenser, and then the special on Kramer vs. Kramer. Which was about, um, Kramer. Not abortion, or praying in schools, or whatever it was that that case was about.

And I managed to write another paragraph or so of my story. Its such a nice feeling that I get when I get back into writing it. Damn! Why can't I have talent? Then again, look at Bryce Courtney.... Or Mills and Boon, for goodness sake!

Slept about 10:30. It was later than I was planning. Oh well. Time ain't on my side, I guess.
