Cos I went and watched a movie with Matt Damon in it - The Good Shepherd. And that is actually V's quote, cos I couldn't remember that line at all. Although when we were discussing it later, I remembered that it was actually Matt Damon saying it.
Got up at 9. Left as soon as I was ready, as there was quite a bit of stuff to do. Although it turned out that it wasn't enough, cos I finished quite early. Still ended up getting to service late, since I had to pay some people money on the way. It was really quite crowded as well - though I think everyone was just squished over one side.
Got Jesters for lunch. They had a rather limited selection, which did not include my usual of either Nutty Chook or Stockmans. So I got Taj Mahal and also Spud Deluxe (on the recommendation of the store lady) - the latter was pretty darn tasty, too.
Continued watching The Return of the King, and then continued some more while doing ironing. Even though it was ridiculously hot. Ridiculously.
Got up to about halfway through the battle for Minas Tirith - which isn't really that far - when I left to go to Carousel to watch The Good Shepherd with V. I donno what was with the traffic, or whatever, cos I went by the Manning Road way and got to Carousel in like 20 mins - which was 15 minutes to early. And then V was late, anyway.
Got a medium coke while I was waiting - for $5.10 - and it was insanely big. I should've got a coffee instead, in hindsight - would've been a far better size and also cheaper. Actually, in hindsight, I probably shouldn't have gotten anything, cos of what happened after. But then I needed something to occupy myself.
It was a long film - in excess of 2.5 hours. And it was also quite disjointed and contained very little dialogue, and was also fairly hard to follow. So, all in all, nothing special. Only Robert De Niro's second directing attempt on a major film scale, so not bad in that respect. More on that was to come after, too.
So while agreeing to go and see this film I was telling V (cos I didn't know this film was directed by de Niro till he told me) about another (as I said, his only other) film directed by him, starring himself (although he didn't have a major role - it was mainly that guy who had a minor role in The Sopranos) and Chaz Palminteri (however you spell his name), and that on the whole it was pretty ordinary, except for this one really good scene where de Niro and Palminteri had an argument about de Niro's son (who was the major character - that Sopranos guy). Anyway, so I said that film was Mean Streets, whereas V said Mean Streets was directed by Scorsese. And we bet on it - $50, according to V.
So we went to Fast Eddy's with both of us still insisting on who the director of Mean Streets was. It was a little later when I remembered that that film was actually called A Bronx Tale. So I told V it didn't count cos the film I was describing was actually A Bronx Tale. I don't think he agreed.
And so then we had another bet (due to his coming up with the "Matt Damon!" quote) that Samuel L Jackson was another character in Team America. Which I was absolutely sure of (um...again). And I was really thrown cos V (who I think must've watched it a few times) absolutely disagreed. Anyway, that one is yet to be completely resolved.
The rest of our conversation was mainly concerned with Scorsese's absolute surety of winning an Oscar tomorrow morning. V said because Spielberg, Lucas and...some other guy are presenting the director Oscar it must go to Scorsese cos they all started out together, or something.
Then we had the usual lament about the lack of good music about.
All this over sundaes and chips. His eccentricities are infectious....
Left about 12:30, and had to walk around the whole centre thing, cos we parked our cars upstairs and the inside was shut off. There were some stairs about halfway round though. The temperature felt about 30+ degrees and I noted with disgust the lack of thunderstorm.
Slept about 1:30, after taking a slight diversion down past Curtin and along Mill Point road. My air-con had leaked water again....
